General Discussion about LCD/Plasma TV'S.

We have 1 Plasma tv and 2 LCD tv's in our house. One being connected to my PS3 in my room.

What do you own?
Which do you prefer?
Have you had bad luck with either one?
Is technology the way forward?

Here are a few Advantages of owning a Plasma/LCD Television.

The ADVANTAGES of Plasma over LCD are:

1. Larger screen size availability.

2. Better contrast ratio and ability to render deeper blacks.

3. Better color accuracy and saturation.

4. Better motion tracking (little or no motion lag in fast moving images).

LCD television ADVANTAGES over Plasma include:

1. No burn-in of static images.

2. Cooler running temperature.

3. No high altitude use issues.

4. Increased image brightness over Plasma.

5. Longer display life (about 60,000 hours - at which time all you may need to do is replace the light source, not the entire set). This can vary according other environmental and use factors.

6. Lighter weight (when comparing same screen sizes) than Plasma counterparts

Well, LCD screen size is less becoming an issue, but Plasma now has anti-burn technology and the screen actually lasts longer, so those issues are gone too.

Also LCD black levels and contrast ratios have improved immensely since the move to 100Hz.

So with its cheaper price and lighter screen, I don't think there is much of a choice any longer, LCD is edging out over Plasma and I think this is the technology that the vast percentage of the general consumer market will go with in 2008 to replace their standard TV.

Interestingly, it looks like the 32" LCDs are going to be in short supply soon, so we could be seeing cheaper 40" and 42" models as they're pushed by the retail market as alternatives.
