i am doin my best to liven up the forum : -)
Anyway, The Gamecube is an excellent console. Has some good games (even though there isn't one thats not had me throwing a mass swearing tantrum at it yet). In the long term its pretty limited though. As far as online gaming goes, Nintendo don't hide the fact they have no real interest in the area, so expect as much back up here as you'd get for a console light gun (i.e. about 2 titles in the consoles whole life time).
Loads of Ninties in particular will argue that this doesn't matter but in a way it does because at least Microsoft are trying to give you more lifespan out of your games while Nintendo just want you to shed £40 after £40 to constantly keep yourself entertained. In my opinion, the Gamecube is good when it comes to a single player experience or for when you have a couple of friends over so 4 of you can play.
But Nintendo are really sticking to what they always do, so don't expect anything massively breathtaking. Its nice to see the likes of Pikmin on the way because its a new kind of game, but most upcoming Nintendo projects are coming from existing games. I like games like F-Zero and stuff and at the asking price, I'm happy to pay out to carry on playing them.
But as far as big new titles and good longevity go, I'm looking to the X-Box's future releases. I've pretty much stopped playing Luigi's Mansion now because I've beaten it in both the normal game and the hidden mansion. Wave Race doesn't seem to keep me hooked for long before I've had enough, Rogue Leader is good, but now that I've played the levels a few times theres very little to enjoy about it besides screaming obsenities as I try and get gold medals. As for Super Monkey Ball (borrowed my friends copy cause mine hasn't arrived), its a good little game, but it drives me to breaking point. Now, these games are supposed to be fun, I find them more frustrating than fun most of the time.
I bought my X-Box on launch too and I still love to play Halo. I never seem to get bored with this game, probably cause each time I play it seems to be different thanks to the AI in the game. DOA3 can be frustrating at times, but Halo is just one of those games that really deserves the credit it has recieved. Out of the 2 consoles I prefer my X-Box, despite the childish whining that others on these forums like to spew out thinking it will give them spotlight and respect from everyone around them.
Its not like Nintendo are crap or anything cause they're far from it, but as a games player, I love to compete against other people and even have the chance of experiences such as big co-operative games where team work is needed, etc. I don't just want the Nintendo experience all the time of buying a new game, beating it or at least seeing the best of it in one weekend and then thats that. People are putting Microsoft down, but as I mentioned with Halo, they are bringing games that offer that bit more. For me, the online play is great because I won't have to rely on friends coming round to enjoy some big multiplayer games - especially on weekdays when everyones working and stuff - its hard to get 1 person over at that time let alone a good sized group.
As a single console, I'd say the GC has the better 4 player stuff at the moment. But if you have a friend who also has an X-Box then things are very competitive again. Halo is really at its strongest in multiplayer when you have more players involved. But Nintendo has always games like Monkey Ball that offer the best straight up 4 player modes.
As for the future releases, in my opinion the X-Box looks to be winning hands down in both number and quality. As I said, the GC has its tried and tested titles, but its not looking much more of a full schedule than the N64 before it right now. Maybe things will pick up in the near future though. Overall though I'm happy to have a GC, but I don't think I'd want it on its own without another console like the X-Box to give me more to look forward to. As a pair though they certainly give me plenty to look forward to.
