Now, ask yourself, are games THAT realistic! Game creators, take note!
You are right though, know matter how good the games graphics are or how bad the acting on the characters or their voices are games will never be quite 'as' realistic as films.
For a start, films are actually taken from a camara and the acting is so superb in some cases that you can feel you are actually watching a real life event happening and unfolding.
Unfortunatly, gaming at the moment does not have the same power as a film does to create a realistic world and enviroment. I think it is a long time yet until games become ultra realistic, a VERY long time...
The people that make your games just don't have the tools. Think back to the days of the N64 and how the characters would just jig a bit when they move - making the characters move realisticly would take a long time and so your games would just take so long to get out on the shelves.
But as time goes on all of this will change, just think back a few years and look how far gaming's come...
Anyway, who wants there games to be tottaly realistic anyway? Thats why we are playing games right - to escape the outside world and play in one that we wouldn't usually have. That's what games bring us so why not enjoy it?
In my view, Nintendo seem to be doing an excellent job. They don't go and make every game as realistic as possible. Take a fighting game for example - Super Smash Brothers, how fun is that game! You can go around whacking people over the head with a mallet and use fantasy like moves to defeat your oponent. Now if we take a fighting game from another genre - Tekken, compare that to Super Smash Brothers. More realistic yes, but is it just as much fun?
And thats the sad thing about gaming these days, as the new age consoles get realeased it seems every games developer is being forced to make their games realistic to sell. It really is quite sad that we all want realistic games and now fantasy games either look too kiddy or geeky just because of their graphics or original gameplay.
Here's hoping Nintendo don't go down that road. With their approach on the new Zelda it seems they are going the right way.
I'm sure you haven't missed anything out there, and I bet many people will have a good long, hard think about it all after reading this.
