The FIA have summoned the Ferrari racing team and drivers Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello to appear before the World Motor Sports Council.

The decision follows Sunday's controversial finish to the Austrian Grand Prix.

The race ended in farce as Schumacher triumphed after team-mate Barrichello was denied a deserved win when ordered to move over just metres from the chequered flag.

The 33-year-old then allowed Barrichello to step on to the victory podium and keep the winner's trophy after benefiting from team orders for the second year running in Austria.

The FIA, the sport's world governing body, look to have responded to calls for an investigation into the result which brought almost universal condemnation from rival bosses.

A statement on the FIA's official website said: "Following (i) an incident during the last lap of the 2002 Austrian Grand Prix and (ii) incidents during the subsequent podium procedure, the FIA has summoned the Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro and the drivers Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello to appear before the World Motor Sports Council at its next meeting, which will be held in Paris on 26 June 2002."

Jean Todt's comments at the end of the race basically stated that he had been in total control of his drivers tactically throughout the race and had forbidden them to race each other or push harder than neccessary.

I belive he said of his teams strategy: "Would you call that racing? That wasn't racing". but he said this as if it was something to be proud of.

What? Did I miss something? Isn't that what Motor Sport is about? Jean Todt deserves to be SEVERELY repremanded for his actions and his attitude. F1 is in enough of a shambles without that sort of contribution.

Both drivers may be banned from a race or more or could lose 10 grid positions. Also they could be disqualified from the last race or Ferrari could lose points or even just just be given a fine or possibly nothing. As I said in the other topic it's a very fifficult situation to define and punish.

I don't think the result will be overturned, Shu will still be down as winner of the race, however a Fine for Ferrari is possible and maybe even points off Shu, the consequences need to be high otherwise this will keep happening..

Come on FIA do it for the sport.

I think the FIA should have a bit of fun and reverse the results. Barrichello first, Michael Schumacher second.

There's a good chance they could lose points as they have caused an embarassment to Formula 1 and Jean Todt has said he would do it again.

It would be wrong if barichello was to get in trouble as he had to follow team orders. They are likely to fine or warn Ferrari as a team for the scenes which are becoming all-to common in the past few years.
