David Beckham says he has run for the first time since he broke a bone in his foot.

It was welcome news for Sven-Goran Eriksson after Steven Gerrard and Kieron Dyer's injury woes.

"I did some running for the first time two days ago," said Beckham of the broken bone in his left foot.

"It's fine, a bit sore, but there are three weeks to go so it won't be problem.

"It's up to me to get fit, lose a bit of weight - I've put on about half a stone - and do well out there.

"The England staff have not seen (my foot) yet but the Manchester United staff are really pleased, it's been five weeks and I'm running already. You have up and down days but it's going well.

"But it does not matter about me at the moment, they (Gerrard and Dyer) must be absolutely devastated.

"They are two great players but there will be other great players missing, like Pires from the French team."

Michael Owen said: "I was with Steven last night at our end-of-season meal. He is upset but I don't think he is definitely ruled out yet."

Rio Ferdinand told Sky Sports News: "I don't think Kieron has given up hope yet, hopefully he will be able to get fit."

It is almost certain that Beckham will be fit enough and able to participate in our first game against Sweden.

Yes, it is great news that he can now start running again, but he also knows he cannot do too much or else he'll aggrovate the injury further.
Have you also seen this really expensive boot he'll apparently be wearing??? It looks just like his normal predators, but apparently they help to protect the bones in his foot too.

How long 'till the Sweden game??? Only about 2.5 weeks me thinks!?
Is that really gunna be enough time for him to get back to his best, ready to start in that first game??? I think not.

Take your time David. I'm sure we can do the Group Stage without you.
You'll be needed if we reach the Second Stage and go further though!
