In Manchester Utd's case then yes, having never finished out of thet top two in the Premiership 3rd isnt anywhere near good....2nd's acceptable and 1st, well thats just normal.
Utd have never had to qualify for the Champions League befoer and i'm worried that there is a slim chance that they may not do it, however i have a theory, which is: In 1998 Arsenal did the Double over us and we were left with nothing, and in 1999 what did we go and do? The famous Treble, this year Arsenal did the double over us and we'er left with nothing, so hopefully my theory is right.

Isn't testing a squad a bit dangerous if it is for Europes biggest prize. They'll use friendlies for that. Third out of twenty shows how good the other teams have become.

Third place is definitley bad for a team of United's reputation and standards. Many fans expect nothing less than the Premierhsip in the bag at the start of the season, and this year will have surely shown them how they shoudln't count their chickens before they hatch!

People may see it as a bad thing that we have to play 2 more games to actually qualify for the Champions' League, but I see it as a good thing.
We can use these 2 games to test out the newer and younger stars in the first team squad, and also to get a bit of match practice, helping us to be even more ready and equipped for the start of a new campaign.

I feel dissapointed about this season. Not really because of wher ewe finnished but more like HOW we finnished there. A large number of poor performances and too many mistakes cost us big time!
Mainly in the League and Domestic Cups.

Money is no object at United, look how much they spent on R.V.N & Seba. The best teams have to spend money in order to get the best players, yes Arsenal got Sol for Nothing, but his wages are costing them lots. I think Utd will be aiming to bring in Defenders like Hofland, Ayala & Nesta.

I have also heard this rumour, im not sure if it is true though, because the first thing ferguson would tell a new recruit is that they have to be flexible and must accomodate a rotation rule and sit on the bench if need be

Indeed Patrick would be ideal for RVN, and if Van Gaal will return to Barca, he wants kluivart and Rivaldo gone before he does, but I dont think the fans will like that much, so the chances of him coming are slim, I think the Di Canio Saga may rekindle...

Seba needs time like all foreigners, Just look at the likes of Veira and Piras they took a whole season to settly in. infact Piras looked a waste of money until this season where hes has done brilliantly and they are Europeans, South Americans, especially ones playing the slow-mo game in Italy have to adjust a lot when coming to the Premiership as its a completly different ball game. Yes I agree Seba's not Worth £28 Mil, but then which player is even worth £1 million? Football Prices means spending Big to get the Big Players... Give Seba 1 or 2 more seasons he will be fine.

Indeed we have, United always fight till the end, this season has been dissapointed, however if fergie gets a couple of defenders and sorts the basics out we'll be firing next season.

I have no idea who they will sign as a centre-back as the clubs want lots of money or players in exchange. It is rumoured that Barthez is leaving anyway.

True. I may be misinformed but I thought that Veron had something in his contract that said he must play every game if he was fit.

His Dutch national team partner Kluivert seems the type of player that matches his style of play.

Forlan looks like a brilliant player for the future but until he can answer them there are still question marks over Veron's ability to play in the Premiership.

Too true but Man Utd have proved they are capable of doing so.

We got the same amount of points as we did in 1998 so it aint that bad.

Add a couple of decent centre backs + reliable keeper into the mix and you got a championship winning team.

The Midfield of Giggs, Scholes, Keane and Beckham is proven as the best in the premiership.

A decent support man for Van Nistelrooy will lead to Europeon glory next year as well.

Hopefully Forlan and Veron will come good next season as well.

I'm very optimistic about our chances next season and I'm sure the players will walk out onto that pitch with the hunger they just didnt show this season. Watching the Arsenal parading the trophies today should give them a reality check.

Getting to the top is one thing, staying there is the hard part.

That's not a theory, it's more like superstition...or, one of those weird things ;)

And to answer your question: yes, third is BAD, I mean, only losers finish third.

(Wait, I support Livepool)

*ahem*, I retract my statement, you'll probably beat your opponents anyway, so don't worry. But wouldn't it be funny if the 'Tyne qualified for the Champ League, and you guys didn't? ;)
