To clarify, as of 17:00 on 12/2/2008:

Following reports of unauthorised access to a small number of customer web sites, Freeola has changed all customer passwords for email and web space.

MyFreeola login passwords have NOT been changed. Customers will need to lookup their new passwords in their MyFreeola account in order to access incoming email or update their ftp web sites. Freeola Instant Sites are not affected.

The auto-generated new passwords are of course gobbledegook. Customers can easily change these to memorable passwords by clicking the "change settings" button in the relevant section of MyFreeola. We advise you to include numbers as well as letters in the passwords that you choose.

We sincerely apologise to all customers for this disruption, but our policy on security is "better safe than sorry". We were not able to advise customers in advance of the change as the situation was immediate.

If you are unable to login to MyFreeola, then you may need to contact us on 0871 210 9966. As you can imagine, the lines are quite busy and the number will be engaged if there are no more places in the queue. However, you can alternatively use our Email Support Form but don't forget to include your telephone number (if you are unable to access your email) so that we can call you back!

Was a shock, but glad I had a look here to find out the reason behind it :)

Good work all in all... You can't really provide notice on such things in advance.

That's true, I have amended my original post accordingly

If only Customs & Excise (VAT) could see it that way.

Thanks for the update Tony - It's been a 'funny old day'! it's nice to see posts here so you realise you're not the only person that's been hit by all this.

"We advise you not to revert to your old passwords..."
For a couple of my clients I did try to reset their passwords to get them back online - but FYI your system doesn't allow previous passwords to be used, which I guess makes sense.

I've been helping people (website owners) from England, Wales and two different clients from Oz today, it's as if this internet thing is worldwide!
