ATV Offroad:
Im my opinion, this is the best multiplayer game on PS2. The gameplay is beautiful, it reminds me of a grown-up kart game, and the fact your quadbike spends as much time going up and down as it does left and right makes ATV far more interesting than the average racer: in a similar vein to Waverace. But the best thing about this game is that it poses a tough challenge without being at all frustrating. It's a game that keeps you smiling. That's a rare quality indeed.
Zero Gunner 2:
A game so under-rated you've probably never heard of it. That's probably because it's a Japanese Dreamcast game. Basically, it's the best 2d shoot-em up ever made. Generally speaking 2d shooters get a bad press anyway, being the oldest known genre of game, but fans of Bangaio or Cannon Spike will love ZG2(especially with an arcade stick). Beautiful graphics (as good as many PS2/Box/Cube games), big helicopters, thousands of power-ups and non-stop big-boss action. Blam blam blam.
Crazy Taxi 2:
I suppose this isn't so under-rated, unless you compare it to the amount of publicity CrazyTaxi 1 got. The original Crazy Taxi is on all the recent consoles, and each version is instantly comparable to the original Dreamcast game from way back when. But everyone seems to have forgotten about the sequel. It's a better game. Why Sega didn't port Crazy Taxi 2 to the next-gen consoles instead of the original is completely beyond me.
Every Streetfighter 2 based game:
It would seem the days of the 2d fighter are severely limited. The new breed of next gen gamers shun these titles as if they had been programmed by muppets. They just don't understand. Capcom vs SNK 2 on the PS2 and Dreamcast is the acest game ever made... and for my taste in games would edge towards the 100% mark. You can't make a 2d fighter better than that. Reviewers who once revelled in the joy of Capcom fighting, now give such titles less than 80%... is there no justice?
One of my favourite ever games too.
The physics of the ball is incredable, the graphics are not great but it really does play a mean game of snooker.
"I took my copy back to the shop after about a week. But I guess I've never really enjoyed proper RPGs... that whole turn based fighting thing really rubs me up the wrong way."
This is because you're lazy and impatient... ;0) and you really, really need to play it from start to finish to truly apprietiate it. Meh, I can understand why some people just can't be bothered to try and keep up with the random battles, but it really is worth it, if you just play along.
Hard work, but you get a lot out of it. Still best game ever in my humble opinion.
Delightfully addictive.
