As per usual, Yasser Arafat gets the blame, a person I feel that doesn’t deserve it. Every time, it is he who gets the blame, yet it’s always Hamas who seem to do the bombings these days, Hamas being a terrorist group that Arafat has no influence over. And how can you stop suicide bombers that have no respect for your views? It’s impossible. Arafat, seems to have accepted a compromise situation is the only way to go, yet Hamas want it all – the entire country – as Israel also do. I feel that Arafat is unfairly treated in this conflict… Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has also vowed to retaliate to this latest suicide bombing. Why? Too wrongs don’t make a right, yet he insists on aggressive tactics to stop the Palestinians, which is making things worse. The suicide bombers now dead, Hamas is such a huge terrorist group, a few offensives on them yet again are not going to kill off all of Hamas. Even if they get one important leader, that will not stop suicide bombings. Palestinians are being born into refugee camps where they are brought up with hatred for the Israelis. Attacking them, will make their hatred for the Israeli’s even greater. In my opinion Sharon is far too aggressive.
People are dying basically every day, you hear it on the news "a bomb has gone off on a bus", "Israel started an offensive", “Israeli soldiers gun down a Palestinian”, “A car bomb explodes…”. I know this may sound really harsh, but I hate both Israel and Palestine at the moment. I hate both sides, as they are not willing to compromise. Right now they are locked in a vicious circle of killing that will continuously go on until one of them sides decides to intervene with the process. As long as Arafat and Sharon act alone, neither side is going to succeed. And even if they do at least try and resolve it, and militants in Hamas continue the bombings, at least it can be said that they tried, instead of sitting back playing a game of death tennis, where each side reacts to the other side with more deaths.
Most people think that the Palestinians are the bad guys. Recently, there has been suicide bombing after suicide bombing. I agree this is not the way to go. Nothing will come from these bombings apart from more and more hatred between to the two sides. Recently, an offensive was launched on the Palestinians with tanks, you probably saw that on the news, and hundreds of houses in the Palestinians homes were knocked to rubble, and I expect hundreds of Palestinians, some of them probably innocent died.
Most of you probably don’t know how this conflict began, but it happened all the way back in the late 1940’s. Firstly Britain made lots of promises concerning Palestine; they promised the people of Palestine that if they helped them win the war, they would give them a home. They also promised France they would rule Palestine together… and they promised some Zionists, Jews that wanted a country of their own they could have Palestine… whoops. Next thing you know, they keep the promise with France, anger both sides. Some Jewish terrorists (yes they were terrorists first) blew up a British embassy. Britain withdraws… Palestine is taken over and becomes Israel. Then the Palestinians get angry and retaliate. A few wars between Israel and the neighbouring Arab countries later, we have the situation we are with today. The fact that irritates me, is that Israel just won’t negotiate. It took a country by force, then “shared” some of the land with the Palestine’s eventually – the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. If you actually look at a map of Palestine, the West Bank and Gaza Strip are probably not even a tenth of the whole of Israel. To be honest, I’m not surprised that the Palestinians are angry.
So right now, I really hate this conflict. I think Israel should share, and Palestine should stop killing people as it is making the situation worse. And if both countries cannot share to be honest I don’t think either deserves the country. I heard recently, Sharon, the leader of Israel, ordered tanks to demolish houses in Palestine, so he can encourage Israelis to move into settlements in the area, basically pushing the Palestinians further and further out of their country.
Sadly, both sides to me are acting as stubborn as each other. If there is going to be no fair compromise, we are going to be stuck with this conflict until the end of time. It’s sad but it’s true.
I will leave you with a question which i hope someone will give their opinions on.
What if the Isrealis were in the position of the Palestinians and the Palestinians were the aggressors. Would the situation be the same?
