I love this guy, his older stuff is ok. A sort of gin-rummy lament, bowry-bum kind of thing.
Then he decided to go odd and make "Frank's Wild Years" with instruments like the Marimba, glockenspiel and Mouse Tambourine.
"Bone Machine" is an awesome album, and 7 years later he released "Mule Variations", which is an absolute masterpiece.
And now 2 albums on the same day
"Bloody Money" and "Alice".
Imagine songs from your nightmares, or that fugue state when you're not sure if you're asleep or awake. And there is Waits, crouching in corner singing in his rasping gravel-toned voice.
If you're unfamiliar with Waits, download the following
"Goin' Out West"
"I don't wanna grow up"
"The Earth died screaming"
"Get Behind The Mule"
"Filipino Box Spring Hog"
"Big in Japan"
"Lowside of The Road" (not for the easily spooked)
It's good stuff.
Oh, and Soil are pretty durn good as well.
