This kind of thing has been going on for as long as I can remember, but I was wondering when it first occured. Who was the first player to put the lid of the FA Cup on their head? And what was the reaction?
Commentary: "And here's the goal scorer David Smith, now getting a chance to hold the trophy on this glorious day. But what's this? He's removed the lid, and, my God!
*Stunned Silence*
He's put it on his head?
I'm sorry you had to see this at home folks, I really don't know what to say..."
In the newspapers the next day "Smith in Cup Head Shocker!"
News of this shocking event quickly passes around the world of football, and FIFA call together all of their members for an emergency meeting, what should be done about this cup-head thing?
Then, days later, an alternative comic makes a bold statement "He put the cup lid on his head! Comedy genius!"
And peopel finally start to laugh. Putting cup lids on your head becomes acceptable, until a point were it is in fact expected.
But does it occur in other sports? Watching the Snooker last night I saw Peter Ebdon raise the trophy in victory. His bald head would have made the perfect home for the lid, but no, it didn't happen. Maybe it will one day, maybe it will be highly controversial, but maybe it will also revolutionise the sport?
:o)
Yes it does look funny, but at least they're not putting the main part of it on! That WOULD be silly!! :D
They also drink out of the other part too, don't they. I'm quite surprised that the insides never seem to rust or anything. And I wonder what their girlriends/wives think about them kissing it??
Did you see that bloke engraving 'Arsenal' as Winners onto the Cup with about 2+1/2 minutes to go?? I thought that was a bit optimistic!
Chelsea are a random team, what if they'd have won it with a few own goals???? You can't exacty 'rub out' and engravement now can you! :o
That snooker game was class :)
I dont really watch snooker that much and dont really follow it all, but bloody hell...that was a quality last frame.
And Hendry walks away with £152,000 for losing?! Not a bad sport eh? :)
Forcefully :)
ie - Footballers put the ball on their head, tennis players theirs plus rackets, etc.
This would also stop people dominating in motor sport, and make for some far more interesting pictures of Michael Shoe Maker than we are currently accustomed to.
