Nike workers in developing countries work for about 12 hours a day, every day making trainers in so called 'Sweat Shops'. They are called this because the workers have to work in the blazing heat without much time for a rest.
A few years back, Nike offered a service where you could have any name you wanted printed on the side of your trainers. The rules were that you could not have any offensive, abusive or racist words on your shoe and that you can't have any registered trademark or copyrighted name printed either.
One boy filled in the application form and asked for the words 'Sweat Shop' to appear on his new and rather expensive trainers. He included a cheque with the form so he could get his shoes as soon as possible.
About a week later, he got a letter back saying that his 'slogan' contained offensive language! WTF?!?! If you hit your thumb with a hammer, you you say: "Oh Sweat Shop!" NO!
So, he sent it off again!
Again, he got a reply back from Nike saying that it was a registered trademark! What do you get? Sweat Shop™? NO!
Anyway. This boy kept sending off his application and kept getting them denied.
Pretty useless post, really. Sorry!
