Resident Evil - When I first played Resident Evil, I was doing fine, until I walked through, a brown-ish hallway. The music changed, and as my Berretta stirred nervously under my shirt, I knew that something wasn't right. My heart was thumping and I knew that any second, there could be a nasty surprise lurking around the corner. *SMASH* Through the windows come a pack of Cerberus dogs, more like bloodhounds, wanting my tender flesh. Truly a skidmark moment. My hands were trembling, and I had to pause the game half way through this scene to catch my breath and calm down. However, it was nothing that half a dozen bullets couldn't resolve.
*HISS* hears Chris, entering the same room that his partner, Jill, had earlier. Then come something even scarier than the dogs, but far less violent in their approach. In all its 8-legged glory, comes the biggest spider the gaming world has ever seen. Firing dangerous poison in your face, you have two options: run away, or stay and fight. It looks like I'm out of time to decide. Fine, after some bullets are unloaded into it's frail body, it's down, but there's something happening. *HISS* Not again. This seemingly dead monster has now released many dozens of the little bugg@rs right at you. There's nowhere to run now, you must fight. Fancy footwork and gun slinging is the order of the day here. Either kill or be killed.
*BOOM* They are all gone, but is it safe? Are there any more of them lingering outside? There's only one way to find out - they must keep going. *CREEK* Area cleared...I find it quite funny that this scene still managed to scare me, even though I was 17 at the time!
Resident Evil 2 - I'd sat through the scariest experience of my life with Resident Evil 1, but did the sequel offer anything more - anything that would shake me up even worse than the first? I maneuvered the controller through the lush backgrounds, as hours of gameplay passed by, and I still wasn't scared. Maybe I'd be scared any second now, maybe not, maybe the first one had desensitized me. The Resident Evil effect was kicking in, I suppose.
I was walking through a hallway, Colt .45 in tow. Glass was smashed on the floor, and the casual body stained the hallway. The music begins to get tenser as we progress up the hallway. There is a boarded up gap next to me. *CRACK* I literally jump out of my skin as there are half a dozen zombies lunging their arms through the gaps in the boards, trying to get a taste of my skin. I paused the game, took a deep breath and stayed against the opposite side of the wall, as I snuck past. It appeared that the danger had passed...for now...
It'd been a long time the first soil moment, and maybe there wouldn't be any more. There was only one in the first RE, maybe Capcom are going soft on us? *SMASH* I guess not! Great, I had this terminator of a monster on my tail (known as Nemesis in RE3), and crows have just burst through the window and are pecking at my face, I thought. A few well-contemplated shots from my trusty gun took them down, but my health had suffered a reasonable amount. Luckily, I had some herbs with me, and after some mixing, I was soon back up to full health again, ready to take on whatever this game had to throw at me...or was I?
So, it appears that all is good and well (for a zombie game, at least). I have full health, some health aids at the ready, and plenty of guns, ready to bang out at a moments notice and use on the imposing enemy. *BANG* The timber of the door cracks like a knife going through butter and here comes that terminator again, and he won't take no for an answer. I whip out my Magnum - understand this! His body lies there, but is he going to stay down? I'm not gonna stick around to find out. Resident Evil 2 had three soil moments, which makes Resident Evil's hallway scene seem kind of meager and minuscule. From herein, the rest aren't really soil moments, but just occasions in gaming where I have been surprised or amazed at what has transpired before me. These are more 'wow' moments, than soil moments.
Red Faction - If a revolt by the workers of Ultor and the game's special 'GeoMod' engine weren't exciting enough for you, then the scenes that follow will be. It doesn't scare one bit, but it's a damn amazing piece of action gaming, that shouldn't be noted by budding gamers and developers as a statement: this is what makes a great game. Well-done Volition Inc! Here's what's so good about this critically acclaimed game:
I’ve just blown away a squadron of workers with my trusty pistol, and sadly seen a few of my fellow revolutionists meet their demise. Suddenly, I receive a message from Hendrix; he’s giving me a warning message of a convoy up ahead. So, Parker stealthily walks out. *BOOM* A giant, purple light is sent hurtling towards you from a large tank. You have two choices: either stand there whilst this hits you, or move (either backwards of forwards). It’s decision time, because it’s not long before I’ll either be killing, or killed. *BOOM* It makes an impact, but not on me. There is a massive crater behind me, where this weapon blasted. I’d have to think quickly. There are three guards and a giant tank – I need to take cover quickly. *BOOM* The rockets are still coming towards me, but are just hitting the opposing wall, as I have taken cover. As the next rocket hits, two of the guards begin to leave. I run around the corner and release a rocket from my own launcher. *BOOM* It directly nailed the tank, sending the guard to his fiery death, as a massive crater is left in the remains of the bridge. The tank is smoking, but its defenses are still up. *BOOM* Another rocket is fired by the enemy – it’s time to take it down once and for all. *BOOM* And the final rocket was shot, not only taking the tank down, but also completely decimating it.
Hendrix is back on the codec, and he says that we have to make it out quickly, or the escape ship will leave without me. *BANG* The sound directs us to the see-through roof, where a revolutionist is banging on the roof. *BANG* Blood begins emerging from his body, and he is dead. I’d have to make it out quickly, if I want to get out of here. I strolled quickly around the corner and into the next room. Hendrix warns me to hurry – my head is spinning from all the action. The ship is lifting up onto the platform. *SMACK* The escape door has closed – the ship is leaving without me. Not only do I have to try to find a way to the ship before it takes off, but Hendrix is in my ear hole about how I should’ve been quicker. The ship begins moving, and flies away to a safe haven…or so I thought. What are those white things in the sky!? *BOOM* Ultor blew up the escape ship with missiles!
There they are – the moments that have made my blood pump, my adrenaline rush. With games getting more and more advanced, the tension can only build and build in games, with tougher fights and more shocking levels. I ask you, what are you stand-out moments of all time in gaming?

Give that user a GAD
:)
I probably wont like it now but i just want to see what its like now.
:D
Rainbow Islands was one amazing game!
Ooh, that was great. And still is :)
My favourite moments were also those bits in Resident Evil where you knew that something was going to happen and likewise for games like Devil May Cry and MGS2.
My best gaming moment though was when i was about 7 years old. It was the first game that i ever completed and first game i really played i think. It was for the Amiga and was called 'Rainbow Island'. Do you know it?
Well if you dont it was just one of those 'Bubble Bobble' games where you was one of those characters and you ran around levels killing things.
It was one of my favourite games and it took me absolutely ages to complete.
Wehn i did it i was extatic.
It was a great experience.
I want to play it again.
:(
