When everything is taken into concideration the gamecube is the best console on the market, and before people start moaning on and on, this is my opinion.
With a launch price of just £129 it really is by far the best value for money, and I know it doesn't play DVDs like the PS2 and X-BOX, but that is not what a console is made for, if you want to watch DVDs buy a DVD player, its that simple. When you look at previous consoles, the SNES has always stood out as one of the best consoles ever made. It was this machine that really made the games market take off. It offered so much more than the origional NES and everybody wanted one. Then it was only a two horse race between the SNES and the MEGADRIVE, and the SNES 1 because of its games, nothing else. So now in present day, they have come up with the idea of making these super consoles that can do almost everything. Well thats not what people need, a games console is meant to play games and Nintendo are the only company that realise this. The Gamecube has been designed to play just games, the control pad has even been designd with us in mind. Sony, just couldn't be bothered and used just an updated PS1 pad. The X-BOX pad can only be described as a menace to society, its uncomfatible to use and its just too big.
Now when it comes down to games, Nintendo have always delivered the best, only Sega has ever really challenged Nintendo on a pure games base, and now Sega are developing for Gamecube, it is what people have always wanted, the two best games designers making games for 1 console. Now this is where X-BOX has taken advantage and secure exclusive Sega titles for their console, but how long will this last, they have already had to drop the price by £100 in the first month in order to stand a chance. My prediction is, that Microsoft, will drop out of the war before its really ever begun, the X-BOX, just does not offer enough extra to warrant people to buy, it over the Gamecube or PS2. So this will leave just two consoles battling it out for supremicy.
Its obvious that the PS2 will not fail now, as it is still selling very strongly, but now the Gamecube is here for such a low price, it really is going to be close, between the 2. People will buy PS2's cause of the option of DVD, where as hardcore gamers will most probably get GC, with the likes of Res Evil expected soon, as well as an all new Mario game, which is bound to send the world into overdrive. Sony have never managed a game that has compared to Mario 64.
So there you have it, you have a console that is by far the cheapest from the word go, it will no doubt have the best games on it, and by the size of it you can basically shove it anywhere. Add the prospect of being able to link the GC with the already superb Gameboy Advance, Nintendo have struck gold. Only time will now tell, who will come out on top, but as someone who is only interested in games, when the money is available, the gamecube is what I will be investing in.
(Before people start complaining I know some of the words are spelt wrong)
Console wars topics have been done thousands of times before and people are getting sick of them.
Sorry.
