I've just come back from a boot sale, and on the last stall, I found some DVDs, which include:

Resident Evil
Ice Age
Monsters Inc.
Collateral Damage

And so the list went on. Here's what happened.

--------------------

[Walking from last stall, which had a video that was a rip-off of Terminator.]

Me: That's blatantly copied.

[I walk to the next stall, containint the DVDs said above, and the stallkeeper looks at me.]

Stallkeeper: Nah, they're not copied mate.

[He obviously hadn't realised that I was talking about the previous stall.]

Me: You got a DVD recorder mate? I want one, but they're expensive.

Stallkeeper: Nah mate, these are all propers...

Me: I know, I was just saying...Are they region 1?

Stallkeeper: They'll work on any DVD player mate. They'll play in a PS2 too.

[I had a look at the DVDs, and noticed that they ARE in fact Region 1 and then went]

--------------------

So, the guy was selling DVDs that aren't out here yet was trying to pass them off as Region-Free, when they are not. Also, the cover of Collateral Damage looked scanned to me, but it may just be paranoia. I'll wait for the Region 2 versions thanks, and I'd never buy any media from a boot sale unless it was ridiculously cheap or I could see it working. It's a shame that naive teenagers get pulled in to this kind of business, only to be disappointed when they get home, find out that the DVD won't work (unless they have a multi-region DVD player).

Ah well, at least I know better ;D

I brought Jay and silent Bob region 1 from a market store before. But it was brand new in plastic and the guy was not dodgy at all he made sure to check I had a compatable player. I told him I had a PS2 and a program to play imports, he knew I ment Region X, and sold me the DVD.
