And so starts the millionth GameCube topic on these forums...

The GameCube is a nifty little machine. Its tiny and yet can out-graphicate the PS2, match the Xbox due to the built in functions of the graphics chip and has what I consider the best controller of the lot. coming from an unbiased opinion (remember, I own all 3) (Boast boast), these are what I consider cool, funny or just plain neat features of the GameCube...

#1 The Handle.

People say its dumb. People say its stupid. But of all the things hailed as pointless, I'd say that this is the most handy feature. I've held it many times by the handle carrying it between my lounge and bedroom, and it is both extremely useful and in a decent position. The wires stick out the back of the console, so its not as if the handle is taking up any extra space.

#2 The Start-up screen.

This is the coolest thing I've seen in a long time. A little cube plinky-plonking out the GameCube logo. Far better than the Xbox's dull and poorly sounded exploding flubber and the PS2's slightly crazy floating shapes, its fast, effective and not annoying.

#3 Loading times.

It is said to the contrary, but I'm amazed at the speed and efficiency of the GameCube's logo. Switch it on, and withing 5 to 10 seconds you'll be at the game's main menu. Beats the hell out of the others' incredible loading and saving times.

#4 The little push button thingy.

You know on DVD cases, how in the centre of the CD is a button you push down and the DVD pops out. Well, the GameCube has one of these as the center thing in the console that you put games on. Its not a funny shape or made out of plastic which often renders the function void, but works very well in popping out the game when you're done.

#5 Size.

In the modern world, size is everything. After all, the best things come in small packages. I was amazed at the size of the GameCube, the size of the memory card, heck, even the size of the controller's plug. The discs are another thing as well; they're tiny. The strip of data which is written onto the discs is only about one and a half centimeters wide. Tiny! It is all very cute, but doesn't compensate in the least in the games.

#6 Flip Lid.

Often hailed as the GameCube's weak point, other than the handle, is the lid which is like the PlayStations. Apparently in today's world it has to be disc drawer or nothing. Well, the flip lid definitely works one hell of a lot better than a disc drawer, because not only can you put games in and out as you please, but you don't have to go to a main menu every time you play, or have long loading times likewise. The flip-lid reigns supreme every time.

So there are my thoughts of whats hot and whats... hot, about the GameCube. I love the design the size, and according to my opinion there aren't any flaws at all. Except that dastardly Z button, but thats another story.

The Z buttons not that bad. Sure, as a trigger button it is poorly placed but it really used as one now is it? On Luigi's mansion it is just used to bring up the screen which shows all the items and ghosts you have collected.

But I too noticed all the cool features you mentioned. I especially like the button to "pop" the discs out :)

I love it when the Gamecube logo makes itself up at the beginning.

I love the quick save times :) Its almost instant! Sony Memory cards take a good few seconds longer.

Handle is cool too. When you think about it logically, its pritty damn hard to pick that thing up without using the handle unless you got big hands. Making the handle basically essential.
