Been watching the news and it was showing the rise in violence on the streets towards the police. Not just from football fans like the Millwall fans caught up in yesterdays violence but from a lot of people in various areas. This made me think that maybe it is time for a change in the laws and the rights that such people have. Personally I think that anyone who breaks the law should not be given the same rights as the rest of us, police should have the right to do more. I remember being in Spain and if you get in the way of the police then they rough you up a bit, hit you with their battons and show you who is the "law". I just think that the way things are just isn't good enough, people no longer respect the police and no longer fear what they may do.

It is likely it will get worse before it gets better. If these football fans behave like this at the world cup could our national teams face the punishment in being banned from future competitions?

One of my mates applied to the police force (unsuccessfully I add), but in a talk they were given he was told that in a confrontational situation (lets say guy with a knife) you can only hit him on the arms or legs with your baton. Anywhere else is excessive force.
If someone came at me with a knife and I had a baton I would crack him round the head or in his stomach. The police don't have enough free reign when it comes to restraining people - thanks to do gooders touting their human rights bills around.
If I had my way, a riot would be dealt with with water cannons, batons & stun guns. If that didn't work then it would be time for the plastic bullets.

Have 'some people' heard of self-restraint.

What do you mean by that?

Take it to the extreme and assume that the 'some people' were abused, well they can be helped.

I do not believe that you can't help bieng violent.

That actually makes me a bit angry.

(Not to the point of violence though! :-) )

It really is a shame!

I feel so sorry for the genuine Millwall supporters who just love their team and are trying to enjoy the games.

I hope the troublemakers are all found out and are banned for life.

Not Just from home games but from all football games, but i know that would be extremely difficult.

I do agree that we should be tougher, however, we as a nation, pride ourselves on not going in to situations gung-ho,but bieng diplomatic ,and trying to resolve problems without too much force.

I saw a show last night, which showed the state of football hooliganism in Italy. Things where at a really bad state with much of the hooligans starting riots in the terraces and near by towns, Even stabbing four Liverpool fans after a football game.

The Italian government did put some new laws in to place to try and stop the spread of hooliganism, but so far their efforts have been in vain. Hooligans still cause a massive amount of trouble and damage after most football matches in Italy.

I think this is because most people, who cause the hooligans to riot, want trouble. These people don't care about football, they just want to cause a bit of destruction, and football fans are easy to pick on to provide it.

I think governments from around the world should bring in some new, tougher laws to prevent such violence from continuing. I'm not a football fan myself, but I think its a shame that most fans who aren't violent and want to see football games abroad, are caught up and sometimes blamed in the kind of hooliganism that is generated around football games. Something needs to be done fast.
