I'm considering something.

I want to start a company. Swordspines. I'm sure many of you know about it. If you don't, here's a quick catch up.

Computer games studio. Make games.

Ok, we all up to speed? Excellent.

Now... this is a bit impossible. Because, basically, I need the money. I need to raise quite a few thousand, and then perhaps get in contact with Nintendo/Sony/whoever, see if I can patch a deal in, and hopefully get some backing.

However, I really need to make some money.

I've been told that I have a natural talent for writing... yeah, maybe it's nice to read stuff on here, but what if I could actually sell books... not only would it be cool, but I can start raising money too.

But how the hell do I start going about this? I haven't a clue because I've never thought about it.

Excellent.

I'll go... err... lose all my money and live in a taxi.

Quick! Someone punch me, I need the emotion!

You need an agent basically. I had a look through some of the publishing house's websites and they refuse to accept book scripts that aren't sent via an agent.

Another way in is to win competitions, which I think you'd actually have a damn good shot at doing. Just look out for Young Writer things, ask teachers at school if there's any competitions they know of, and you might get offered something from doing that.

Failing that, if I'm ever a top film director (unlikely) I'll recruit you as a script collaborator and you can do the whole William Faulkner/F Scott Fitzgerald alcoholism thing. It'd be fun :-)

Before you get TOO excited, remember that most great writers died in terrible poverty. On the upside they usually died of syphyllis [sp?] or other sexually transmitted diseases: so you should at least see some 'action'.

Probably not, he started about a week ago.

Only he'll find that funny, I expect. :0)

Anywho, thanks guys. I'm really going to have to do some research into this... need money.

er-no.

He hath contacts. Asketh him, and the way shalt be shown.

As for easy money making... would any of us still be here if we knew the answer to that?

There's a book called The Writer's Handbook 200x which has everything you'll ever need to know about earning money by writing. It lists publishers, agents etc, and is full of advice on getting into print. I think most libraries have this book, otherwise it's only a tenner on Amazon.

Good luck ;~)

Hehe, good luck Grix. Take everyone else's advice, as will I, as I'd like to get into this at some point.

What about putting all of our short stories together into one big collection? Then SR can sell it at their stores, we could get part of the earnings, then we'd win Book Of The Year award and then we could all be authors.

Never know, could work. {:)

I've wirttena great few chapters to a long story (trilogy acually) everyone that's read it wnats to know what happens next.

It's in the stories forum in 2 parts with no replies. Probably on the next page by now.

But I like every one to save it and then read it later because I'm really pround.

It called 'Well, it says Long' parts 1 + 2
