a lot of the games that are coming out are really impressive and so i dont't really think the playstation2 is hard to develop for , i just think that they have to get used to the machine before they do really inventive stuff:

Remember the original Ridge racer?
at the time it was released i was in awe at the speed and sharpness of the game.it was ground breaking for a console to have graphics like that.
once pictures and videos of gran turismo were out and about, everyone was saying that the replay's could be mistaken for a real life replay's of car racing, and still with graphics like gran turismo's it still played at a steady 30 fps.

This can be achieved on ps2,that's why developers should really give it a try before they give up. i bet that by the time metal gear solid 2 comes out here, lot's of games will have much more impressive effects and graphics (as well as sound) than the first wave of next-gen titles.

okay another example; does anyone remember the game "fade to black". That game came out quite early and also i played it for ages until i completed it, i thought that it was a really great game, with nice graphics , slick gameplay and the game had an unusual tension to it. Compare the game Fade to Black with metal gear solid.....exactly! there is almost no comparison.for example: the detail in Metal gear solid on the textures such as crates and buildings are very sriking and look great.fade to black had seemingly gouroud shaded polygons( for example just a wall with little detail on it like a shadow effect on it).

So i don't think that developers should just giving up because they find it difficult to code. munches oddeysey looks great, and the jaggiedness is very little from the videos i have seen. so what are oddworld inhabitants going to do now? stick with x-box for a while and then once a new more powerful system comes out- go to them?
Oddworld Inhabitants say that they want a system to realise their dreams first of all they say playstation2 is the answer and since microsoft threw around a few x-box dev kits, they turn around and say "x-box is more powerful, we can realise our dreams with this wonder machine"

For god's sake, you are programming a game on a gaming console. games are meant for enjoyment, to play and play again. not for moving to the next company just because they don't like jaggies----- if they want to realise their dreams then why don't they go make a film with all the effects ans look - no jaggies.

people buy games to play and to enjoy, not to count the amount of on-screen polygons.
i mean when sony first released the Playstation they weren't as in your face with specs as today, they just showed games- and they spoke for themselves. now with the advances in console and gaming power it is a good idea to show amazing polygon rates and power, and sony have done that very well, they have also shown the games too.

If they want to make it on x-box then that's a bad thing for all the people who have wanted to buy the munches oddeysey game. it may be a good thing for them since they can kill off the jaggies, and push more polygons.
seeing that they are now working with (or going to be )microsoftit will probably be a simulation game, with realistic movement of munch or abe and realistic jumping techniques that can vary from each one.

Playstation 2 is a fast and powerful bit of kit, so is the x-box and so is gamecube as well as dreamcast.
developers make fun,,long,games with great gameplay and graphics. you don't really need to kill off jaggies, and even if you had to it can be done. look at violitions
Summoner, it plays at 30 fps with full scene anti-aliasing.
so mr oddworld inhabitants don't tell me you can't do anti-aliasing on the playstation 2. i can also say that a lot of playstation 2 games will look a lot better than x-box and gamecube games once the developers have put in time and effort to get used to the systems programming methods.plus what would you rather play abe or munch with
a playstation 2 dual shock2 control pad or some dodgy tacky,plastic microsoft sidewinder varient.

i rest my case that oddworld made a bad move going to x-box, and that developers shouldn't be so negative about playstation2 and it's programming methods. Why don't they learn off all the major games bieng released for ps2 on launch date and beyond:tekken tag tournament,ssx, timesplitters,metal gear solid 2, the getaway,dead or alive 2:hardcore, i could go on.


so developers take note!

Yes, I think that the progress made in game development can take a massive leap forward with just a handful of ground breaking games. The early psx games don't use the consoles potential and the ps2 will probably be the same.
Why do I think this? Well firstly more is possible on it and there are as yet few precedents of what is possible for other developers to go by.The controller is possibly the most significant part of this. Imagine a new Ps2 "music" you could actually play instuments with some degree of expression or manipulate samples instantly without having to set loads of parameters.
This is what exites me about the ps2, the potential for greater subtlty in gaming.
Graphics improvments and processing speeds are one thing but trancending this and getting a deeper gaming experience has to be the next level of gaming.
