TOKYO, Sept. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- KONAMI CORPORATION has announced that it has begun development of several game titles for the launch of Microsoft's future generation game console, Xbox, which is planned for the fall of 2001. These titles include: "Crash Bandicoot X," a popular character action game; "Jurassic Park X," inspired from the original motion picture; "Silent Hill X," a new type of 3D horror game; and "Metal Gear Solid X," a sequel of the 5.5 million world-wide seller action-shooting game.
These titles have been specially designed for Xbox and will include stunning graphics, high quality sound, and hard disk drive features that are unique to the new console. They will provide gamers with intense, action-packed game experiences never realized on previous game consoles.
KONAMI has already started work on these new titles after receiving approximately 100 Xbox Development Kits.
"At the initial Xbox announcement back in March, I promised to put together Xbox game development teams in order to release a title before anybody. I am delighted to be the first in the industry to announce specific game titles for Xbox. We are prepared to include Xbox as one of our target consoles in our multi-platform business strategy. KONAMI is confident that this announcement will inspire the industry, and will lead to the growth of the consumer console game market," said Kagemasa Kozuki, CEO of KONAMI CORPORATION.
Robbie Bach, senior vice president of Microsoft Games Division and chief Xbox officer, added; "I am very pleased to be part of KONAMI's announcement. KONAMI's strength in creating great games combined with Xbox's superior technology makes for richer, more intense action-packed game experiences. Many of the world's top games developers are Japanese, and I am confident that we will see news of more exciting Xbox games from these companies in the near future."
About Xbox
Scheduled for release in fall 2001, Xbox (http://www.xbox.com/) is Microsoft's future-generation video game console that delivers superior graphics, better audio and the most intense, action-packed gaming experiences available. All this is possible because Xbox has at least three times the graphics performance of the newest generation of game consoles. Features will include a 733MHz CPU, a custom-designed graphics chip capable of processing more than 1 trillion operations per second, an 8GB hard drive, 64 MB of total memory, a 3-D audio processor with 64 audio channels, and broadband connectivity for online game play. Xbox uses familiar architecture and DirectX(R) development tools so game developers will be able to create better games faster.
There seems to be different catagories which each console maker is falling into.
The dedicated games machine: Nintendo, Sega.
The games machine, with added benefits: PS2, X-Box.
Imagine having 100% power to use for the console, (If you have ever played X-Wing, you should understand this...)
For a dedicated games machine, we can take all 100% to work for the games, or basically, full power to games.
For other things, I.E. DVD player, or internet browsing, WAP, e-mail and other stuff, we have to take bits from the percentage.
So this is my prediction.
GameCube: 80% (Nothings perfect, and other things will be weaved into it, internet, for example.)
Dreamcast: 80% (The same, not perfect, but with internet browser and stuff.)
PS2: 60% (Just the DVD to blame, really.)
X-Box: 40% (Piles a' rubbish crammed into one system.)
Thanks brain. Any comments?
sorry for the cut and paste. Truth is my origonal message was regected telling me to take out the swears or change all caps. when it sent me back my freakin message wasn't there. I think it was just to long. 2 bad
Do microsoft have any demos of this performance, I've seen screen shots but the quality of the image was not good enough to determine any advance over ps2/Gc graphics.
