I didn't have to go far for the proof that I needed, I just looked to my left and saw my 1 week 3 days old X-BOX, no games at the moment but... it is definitely the way to go. After renting/completing Max Payne and borrowing/completing Oddworld: Munch’s Oddysee I have never enjoyed 2 games as much in my life. With no games to play and just the pad to hold I wanted to find out if people felt the same way or not.
Selling the N64 was a great move as I have never liked it but the point is after testing if it worked or not I tried a game and couldn't believe how much better games had come on over the years and to be honest with you I was totally amazed. After minting in my loft for 2 years I hadn't played any pre-generation consoles for over 2 years until now.
To fund my X-BOX funds I had to let go of my PS2 with 8 games, you might be sat there thinking " what the hell is he on about " and with good reason but it shows how much they are moving in the right direction. The N64 good at the time but it seems like centuries a go when I actually played it but more recent example is trading my PS2 for an X-BOX. I only got my PS2 last October for my birthday and already under half-way through the following year I came to the conclusion that it was finally time to part with the console. Don't get me wrong I think Sony is a class company and I hope the PS2 does very well over the next year but I wanted an X-BOX. Anyway back onto my point, There has never been so many good consoles released in such a short period of time and the last very powerful console I owned before my PS2 was the N64 but in the last 6 months I have bought/traded 2 great next generation consoles my PS2 was traded and the X-BOX purchased. This still may be puzzling you what point I am trying to make but here goes, this last year has been pure first class for gamers world wide but before this there was nothing good for a period of 4 years. If this is what is happening now just imagine what it will be like in 10 years time when even more consoles are challenging for the number 1 spot at the top of the console charts.
Gaming is going so quickly in the right direction that I am finding it hard to keep up with what games are coming out and which ones to buy, this is better than having the dilemma of, " is this game a waste of money? ". I was thinking of getting a Game Cube but to be honest with you I do not like Nintendo, do not have a go at me for this because it is just the way I feel, they are not rubbish but I am always after the next best thing and at this time it just happens to be the X-BOX.
Before the N64 the gaming market had been given a slight boost by the Sony Playstation and the Sega Saturn in terms of bringing 3D games to life and bringing us more powerful machines but this did not last long. The Sega Saturn soon went out of favour and the Playstation did not have anything to compete with in the gaming market so no-one bothered about gaming been taken to the next level, but now with all the competition it is the main topic of conversation and is causing some very heated debates as people are loyal to a certain company.
I am amazed at how fast games are moving in the right direction >>>>>> but it was only today that I had really sat down and thought about it. If this is what is happening now just sit and think about what is going to happen when the X-BOX 2 and PS3 are released, at this time I refuse to think of this as I have just shelled out £300 for an X-BOX and I am over the moon with what I got but it is just a thought to what is going to happen. Could all the companies get together and build the world’s most powerful super console ever imagined or will they all go their own separate ways and continue to give us all the gaming controversy that has grown over the last year with the release of the 3 most powerful and exciting consoles ever.
It could just be me and I am probably having one of those crazy moments that I am writing as I am thinking but I feel that the gaming market is moving so fast in the right direction that we will never be satisfied. Do not reply saying "I am satisfied with what I have got" because I feel the same way but it is just a thought that we do not often think or talk about.
What do you feel about this topic? Do you want it to speed up anymore? Or are you happy like I am with what is out? Are you like me and always after the next best thing? Or are you content with an average console that brings out a handful of good games every year? Please tell me how you feel about this and tell me if I am crazy or not. Should I ring Microsoft and ask them for a straight coat instead of the Extra pad because until I hear other people’s opinions I will feel this way.
Thank you for reading.
