Firstly, games should have more features to give them a little more longetivity. A games developer should not feel that they have to go into the depths of Final Fantasy or Zelda to make a long (yet interesting) game, though. For example, Rez has basically no storyline whatsoever but is one of the most addictive (and I feel, non-repetitive) gamers ever and I could paly the same set of levels for quite a long time before getting bored and having to move on ot the next section. Even though FF is huge on its own each game has its own minigame (Triple Triad, Tetra Master, Blitzball) and in the case of FFX, its own LANGUAGE (ie Al Bhed). So if Sqauresoft go to these lengths just for extras (which combined could probably make an ok game anyway) surely others can just add a few more extras, not necessarily to the level of Sqauresoft but to make their games longer and worth the money.
Next, we have the actual game itself. Firstly it should have difficulty levels so everyone can set it so that every gamer, young or old, is challenged, which automatically gives the game a (little more) longetivity.
Then they could maybe add some sub-quests if its a RPG or adventure, and extra characters and levels if its and FPS or beat-em-up. Little things like that Im sure would please gamers who have ever spent £40 to finish a game and discover finishing is just that.
And just to keep things short Ill finish up with those damn sports sequels. There is absolutely no need whatsoever to bring out a new football or baseball or croquet game just because of some minor player changes. It's just a big rip-off. Everyone knows. Unless there is a seriously big change in the game or ay partcipating teams (BIG change) then no sequel for the year is needed (and as soon as a new player is bought, the games out of date anyway!)
Hope this was mildly interesting. Any feedback would be good :)
