Has anyone else who has seen F&F noticed how similar the plot is to Point Break (which starred Keanu Reeves & Patrick Swayze.) Both films involve an undercover cop who must infiltrate a gang (F&F: car racers, PB: surfers) in order to solve a crime (F&F: highway truck robberies, PB: Bank Robberies) In the course of both films the cop falls for a woman involved in the gang. In both films, the cop gets too friendly with the gangs and in both films the cop lets the gang's leader get away at the end. (F&F: he gives Vin Deisel his car to escape, PB: Cop uncuffs bad guy and lets him go surfing!)
Anyone else noticed this.
P.s. Point Break is a superb film and if you haven't seen it, rent it soon!!
But that doesn't really matter, does it? I enjoyed both of those films, and that's why people make films, so you enjoy them (and to make money).
And the whole script repeating seems to happen quite a bit. Take Top Gun and Days of Thunder. I realise they were made by the same people, but they weren't meant to be related. YET every event in these films matches up.
TOP GUN: Tom Cruise plays a rookie pilot, Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, who gets his big break in the elite fighter school.
DAYS OF THUNDER: Tom cruise plays a rookie indycar driver, Cole Trickle (?), who gets a big break in Nascar.
TG: Despite high hopes Maverick 's initial performance at top gun is not too good, and he is shown up by legendary Iceman.
DOT: Despite high hopes Trickle's initial performance in nascar is not too good, and he is shown up by legendary Russ Wheeler.
TG: A major accident that kills Maverick's co-pilot shakes him up, and he fears that he'll never fly again.
DOT: A major accident that seriously injures Trickle and his rival shakes him up, and he fears that he'll never race again.
TG: Maverick falls in love with his tutor, then they fall out as a result of issues regarding the accident.
DOT: Trickle falls in love with his doctor, then they fall out as a result of issues regarding the accident.
TG: Maverick attempts to fly again, but is hauted by memories of his accident, and is no good.
DOT: Trickle attempts to fly again, but is hauted by memories of his accident, and is no good.
TG: Maverick finally sorts himself out, goes into battle, the most important event of a pilot's career, and wins the battle, using a subtle trick involving fooling the enemy into thinking that he'll do one thing, then doing another.
DOT: Trickle finally sorts himself out, races in the Daytona 500, the most important event of a Nascar Driver's career, and wins the race, using a subtle trick involving fooling the rival into thinking that he'll do one thing, then doing another.
TG: Maverick gets the girl.
DOT: Trickle gets the girl.
Was this intentional? I think it must have been.
The other side of this, is what the business call 'remakes' hence Vanilla Sky, Ocean's Ellev, Psycho. These are all basically the same as the originals, but they just have a different cast and sometimes a different setting.

I am not saying that there is anything wrong with these films (except well the last three i mentioned). I am just saying that we very rarely get anything new and original from Hollywood, that is why F&F is so close to PB.
