My PS2 has suddenly started to give a 'Disc read error' to certain games.
PS1 CDs work. So do the blue PS2 CDs but the silver ones keep giving the
'Disc read error'.

Sounds just like the problem i had 4 months ago, it seems that there is a problem with your DVD laser in the PS2 as thats the format of the games in silver.

You need a new one by the sounds of things, if its the same problem as mine.

Ring the Sony Helpline and tell them, they should replace it for you for nothing or a small fee, though mine was free and it was over a year old.

Never heard of this problem before, I suggest you contact sony and tell them about this malfunction. They will probably replace it with a new console.

:( you must be really annoyed. Ring up the sony hotline and tell them whats happening you shold be able to get a replacement PS2. :) just give them a call

How old is your PS 2? cause if you still have your warranty or any kind of insurance policy you could claim it under that. If not and if its older than 1 yr you could get in touch with Sony or claim it under house insurance.

My mate had this problem, he called sony and they replaced it for free no worries.
