Right, to start off with, does ANYONE know where I can find some Windows 2000 drivers for a Diamond MX300 soundcard? I've tried everywhere but can only find some crap beta versions at VortexOfSound.com

Failing that, is this soundcard from SR any good? SC - SOUND BLASTER 128 PCI SOUND CARD.

It's only £25. I want a soundcard for listening to MP3's. I'm not bothered about AMAZING quality, but it has to be good enough to listen to.

Don't need surround sound or Dolby Digital or anything fancy. Any ideas for cards?

Cheers.

Oh, brief trawling of newsgroups - apparently win2k has drivers for the aureal2 chipset supplied, tried these? What is it that doesn't work about the vortex betas?

first link I found for diamond mx300 sound card is http://home.istar.ca/~giq_tam/vortex2.zip - if it's not those, poke around driverguide.com (generic login is u/n: drivers p/w: all), I saw a few other references.

Alternatively - yes, the 128 is a fine card for basic mp3s etc, I use a 5.1 Live! at the moment. I'd take a look at the audigy, £50 for the OEM card, or possibly the Gamesurround...know a lot of gamers who use it, good for gaming and music, £37 for the Fortissimo. Anyway, if you're not particularly bothered then go with the 128, although you can pick up a 5.1 Live! for £25 and have the option of 5.1 some time in the future if you feel like upgrading.
