In an astounding move, Japanese video gaming giants Nintendo have shocked the games world and announced a range of software titles specifically aimed at the under 4s market, and even for pre-born children.
Along with the software, there will also be a special peripheral, purposely designed to be put on the mother’s tummy and send subliminal gaming experiences to the unborn child using ultra-sound technology, similar to an ultra-sound scan.
A spokesman for Nintendo made the following statement:
“In the past, many people have pointed out and criticised Nintendo’s stance on violent games, and laughed at the fact that we aim our games mainly at children, well now we are aiming at an even lower age group.
Nintendo have always been a family orientated company, providing great software titles for all the family, but we always felt that pre-born children and toddlers were being slightly overlooked so we have exclusively developed the ‘Embryo Collection’.
Evidence and research already exists, showing that pre-born children exposed to soothing classical music benefit from higher IQs and social development in later life. Children will enjoy gaming in the womb, and it will be good for them.
As toddlers develop, they don’t lead particularly taxing lives, but the ‘Pre-School Toddler Fun Range’ will introduce youngsters to technology at an early age, and help develop and nurture their brain power, whilst improving hand to eye co-ordination.
We believe that ‘womb gaming’ and ‘toddler gaming’ will be a great success.”
Both games series will be released exclusively for Gamecube, and the ultra-sound control unit peripheral will be released together with a game.
Microsoft criticised Nintendo’s approach to womb gaming by claiming that the process will brainwash pre-born children into becoming ‘Nintys’.
However, Microsoft did make an announcement regarding games for different age groups. The computer giants have displayed a range of software aimed at more ‘mature’ gamers.
Called ‘The Old Fogey Range’, titles will include; ‘Gardening 2003’, ‘Bill Gates Bingo Funhouse’, ‘The Last of the Summer Wine’, ‘International Bowls 2003’ and ‘Myst 1, 2 & 3’.
A Microsoft spokesman said:
“Everyone knows that the Microsoft Xbox caters for mature gamers only, so we are delighted to give our fans the games they deserve. Unlike Nintendo, we don’t want games aimed at young children, we aim for the more grown up market, and these new titles prove this.
We look forward to providing Xbox fans with more quality ‘mature’ titles in the months ahead.”
Sony have said that they have no plans to develop games for any specific older or younger age groups, and they will remain the same by aiming their titles at pubescent boys who love Lara Croft and overly violent games with all style and no substance.
And what about the old guys???
