Police find body in Thames
19.30PM BST, 23 Apr 2002
A body has been discovered in a lock on the River Thames.
Officers were called to Sunbury Lock, south of Sunbury Court Island, just a short distance from Walton-on-Thames where schoolgirl Amanda Dowler went missing more than a month ago.
A member of the public raised the alarm about 3.50pm today after spotting the body in the water.
A spokeswoman for Surrey Police said officers at the scene had confirmed there was a body in the water and were in the process of recovering it.
"We do not know at stage the sex or age of the body," said the police spokeswoman
The spokeswoman was also unable to say whether the body was clothed or not.
Ahh man. I was there today. I was at Sunbury Lock MOMENTS before the body was found. This is terrible. Thoughts??

They confirmed it wasnt her but a 73yr old Women how has been missing for a year...
It must be in a right state if they can't tell the sex. I hate to imagine what happened...

Christ mate! I really feel quite sorry for you. Personally I'd rather have not known if there was a body floating right next to me, and it's lucky that you didn't see the body. I think it's quite cruel of the TV stations to say that a body has been found there and that it 'may be Amander Dowler'. Imagine what strife the parents must be going through. Then again, they're just broadcasting the news, you can't shoot the messenger. Life is fragile my friend, cherish it...

I just relised, they raised the alarm at 3:50. I was there at 3:50. Man, I left as the body floated along!
Maybe this should have gone in the Life forum?? (And no, that wasn't meant to be a sick joke)
