No one would have believed, in the first years of the twenty-first century, that Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft were being watched from the eyes of the human race. No one could have dreamed they were being scrutinized, as someone with a microscope studies creatures that swarm and multiply in a drop of water. Few men even considered the possibility of the price wars about to unfold, yet, across the English Channel, minds immeasurably superior to ours reguarded Europe with with envious eyes, and slowly, and surely, the drew their plans against each other.

In early April, Microsoft revealed to the world that they were cutting the price of the X-box. It did not interest me. I was concerned only for the fate of the GameCube. Gaming had become more like politics as time went by. I took a sip from my mug of coffee, and carried on as normal. As if nothing else was to happen. The next few nights were peaceful, not a sound stirred in the outskirts of the city, except for the odd passing aeroplane heading for the nearest airport.

Suddenly, one afternoon in the latter half of April, a shocking news report was blasted out of the monitors of gamers all over Europe. The GameCube's price has been reduced Europe-wide as a result of the X-box's price drop! I breathed in a large gulp of air, that never before had smelt oh so sweet, twas only now things were becomming clear.

The look of delight swept across the nation like a mexican wave. Gamers eyes lit up all over Europe and the spark that was gaming had burnt to a flame. The X-box, Playstation 2 and now the GameCube all at reduced prices, all so close together in this competition of detirmined riders and powerful horses. With prices so low, it was perfectly clear that the console each child would own would be out of choice and not what they or their parents could afford.

Little did they know that the following events would become such a bloody battle, a battle for survival, where the winners will survive and the losers would be wiped from the planet - A battle so terrible and so terrifying that no one could even dream to consider what may come of it. Ogilvy the astrologer assured me there would be no harm done, that everyone would be a winner. The chances were a million to one he insisted, yet I still had my doubts. Someone was going to succeed and put the crown of victory upon their head, whereas someone was going to lose, to be out of the game altogether. The future of gaming was going to change to beyond what our innocent eyes could ever percieve. This was the beginning of change, the start of a new era. This was the Eve of the War.
