I don't know whether it's been intentional or not, but if you're going to do a short reply to a long post, don't include the whole of the original post. It's only a few people who do it, but it irritates a lot of other people. And I'm not saying that just because I'm one of them. Thanks.

Well I think I've been here long enough to know when not to do that, even on small posts I hate using all the text and prefer to either write a reply from scratch or just copy and paste certain bits.

I'm just wondering whether SR have any of this mentioned on their sign up form, oh well it was a long time ago so perhaps nh's comment about just pointing JAT's and Newbies in the right direction might work. As for regulars doing it, well I just don't understand!

Jive - Yeh, I know ;-).

Like I said in the original post, I don't know if the recent cases have been intentional. If they are, I hope this thread gets the point across succintly. If it's not intentional, well I think the wording was polite - I don't say 'thanks' unless I mean it.

I do hope no-one does that to MoJoJo's posts in the Music TV forum, they're long enough as they are, but well worth the read!

You'll know what I mean when you read them.

Too true - And I for one am certainly not offended.

It isnt difficult to rpley quoting etc and delete all the stuff except that bit you are referring to.

There was a newbie in today who was doing the reply quoting thing and I just stuck in a quick reply telling him and he apologised and started posting "normally" - it does work.

Well it's been happening in multiple threads. And this post isn't offending anyone who isn't guilty of doing it, is it?

Seriously though -- The best way to deal with it I find is to just point it out when people do it - politely - most of the time people take note, alot of newbies dont realise either what they are doing or how to do it differently.

Then there are those who just want their word count up !

Well if you want people to stop with that rubbish then you stop with this.

You dont need to open a new topic just to tell people this.

I don't mean posts of this length. There are some in this forum where 3 or 4 words have been added to several 100. If people are that desperate to get their word count up, write something interesting yourself.
