But now it seems that inamongst all of the flashy grahics and endless sequels that we have today that we are ever so slowly losing the quality of gameplay in games, Ok so Nintendo games still have that "special something" but for how long can that last?
What will happen when Shigsy has retired? or when we reach consoles that have grown to over 1024 BIT? what will become of Sony and Microsoft? the PS5? Xbox 4? who knows? the point is, are games actaully getting better or worse? It's an interesting question and one that I keep on thinking about time and time again, usually if you asked a casual gamer their definition of a better game would be "better graphics" but im not talking about that, I mean sure grahics are a big part in games and so do sounds and playability but the main thing that there seems to be less and less of theses days is originality.
How long can a games company remain original for? or how long can a classic series carry on for? I mean take The legend of Zelda for example a prime example of a game where every single game in the series has been a classic (even Zelda 2 the adventure of Link was a classic in it's own right) and even now with the latest installment coming to the gamecube it still strives to be original even if many have criticised it just because of it's graphics (shallow people) but how long can it carry on for?
Allready this week we've heard news of the greatest zelda game of all time (and the greatest game ever in my opinion) "The legend Of zelda Ocarina Of time" is being redone for gamecube, and whilst this is fantasic news as it expands upon the original greatly, is it a sign that games companies like Nintendo are running out of Ideas?
And if and when games companies do start to run out of new and original ideas whilst re-releasing old games with special upgrades to fill the huge gaps, is this going to be enough to satisfy the majority of gamers? has the games industry reached the heights of sucess or is it really in decline?
Another increasing factor in the games industry is the number of ports and games that are going multiformat, Is this really just using the sucess of a popular game to sell another console or make it poular among the vast majority? or is Just another way of filling the long gaps between release dates in order to please everyone?
Will we be overrun by ports and multiformat releases on all consoles by 2010? or will games companies be able to continue in the production of new innovative ideas untill well into 2030 and beyond? for now I think the games industry is thriving and it could be some time yet beforee games reach the stage where it could be nothing but ports, but on the other hand it might never happen but It is an interesting thought never the less and one that can either be pondered over or ignored, but for how long? how long indeed.
thanks for reading.

Yeah games are probably losing that 'classic' feel, thats why I still like Nintendo. Games like Zelda OOT have good atmosphere and memories but Medal of Honour, though good, is instantly forgetable.
