Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony – these are the brands that we all know and love deeply in the console/gaming industry. For years, console developers have used several techniques on how to make a console more appealing to gamers around the world. As you already know, today, consoles are becoming more and more like a fully loaded home entertainment system.

The war is on…

Sony steps in the ring and bellows, “Our console has a unique design and will outrun the specs of your XBOX, Microsoft. And as for you Nintendo, we shall see who has the better games”.

Microsoft replies back in viscous anger, “How dare you make a mockery of our console? Why, we have the state of art processing unit, a graphics system that pushes 3x the effects than any other console to date and we also included a Hard Disk Drive, which you Sony, couldn’t even be bothered to add in as a sort of bonus because you prefer to make gamers pay more money for your console that hasn’t even the specs to rival against ours. Even the GameCube can beat your lame specifications!”

Nintendo enters and says in fury, "Excuse me Microsoft, but what do you mean that 'EVEN' the GameCube can beat your specs, when we have the best system on the Planet? Our GameCube is going to be the most dedicated console to the gaming industry, and you know it is true! Besides, how can anyone judge a console before it’s even released? The only ones that can talk are those who have actually used the consoles and played the games.

Sony says, “I say, good show old lad. You most certainly scared them off. I can see the trail of their joypad leads for a mile! What do you say we join forces? Just think about the headlines! I can see it now… ‘Sony and Nintendo make it to the top’, front page on Special Reserve’s website and magazine.

Nintendo thinks, “…. Huh! You really think it’s that easy, do you?”

Sony replies, “Well I…I”

Nintendo again, “Well…do ya…PUNK!

Sony’s conclusion, “Very well then Nintendo, we shall see who has the better game. Just remember one thing before I go…

Nintendo, “Oh yeah, what’s that!”

Sony replies, “We have a Mascot!”

Nintendo, “Noooooooo”

Sony, “Oh yes! That’s right Nintendo. We have Solid Snake to back us up. With him on our side, we can’t lose on sales! MU HU HA HA HA HA HAAA!

Nintendo, “Oh yeah, well, well…

Sony, “Wellllll? "Out with it"

Nintendo, “Well…we have Luigi, and he is going to ‘hoover ‘em up’ even better than the Ghostbusters can.

Microsoft returns, “So what have I missed?”

Sony and Nintendo reply simultaneously, “Oh, shove off ya bum!”

Microsoft crying and running away with a baby’s accent, “Muuuummmyyy”

Sony, “This means war Nintendo, console WAAAARRR”!

Nintendo in a cool style voice replies, “Suit yourself”

My thoughts at the end of the day:
First off, this topic is not aimed at it being a console war, even though in reality, there is really a console war in action. However, this topic is mainly aimed and what each console has brought to the gaming industry such as, Microsoft’s HDD for example, or Broadband connection, or even Nintendo’s launch titles, and Sony's horrible display for making us pay extra for a Hard Disk Drive, not to mention a multiplayer adapter.

Every console has a unique thing to offer and each one will do well. It mainly comes down to what type of game everyone enjoys playing, what age a game is rated for and also if a console is comfortable to use (GameCube’s controller as the perfect example).

Hope this proves a point to the gaming industry, that not every console has a bad day, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that every other day is perfect for a console. The days come and go…some are good and some are bad, and some may be neutral.

At the end of the day, it’s all about how someone feels about a game as mentioned earlier, and if a game they like has what they are looking for and what they expect to se in it, then it will do well for both, the game and for the console.
