Below, I will list the "Fact's", the "Proof" and then I will give a short comment about each piece.
SPEED
FACT: Dolphin will knock Playstation 2 and Dreamcast into a cocked hat.
PROOF: "It will be the fastest and most powerful home video game system, period." - Howard Lincoln, Chairman of NoA, May 1999.
The Real Deal: This is a true statement. The Dreamcast is already out of production and the Playstation 2 is counted as a multi-entertainment system and not a "home video game system". Howard Lincoln's wording was clever as to say that, as, even though some aspects of the GameCube are more powerful than the PS2, the PS2 is powerful in other aspects.
VISUALS
FACT: Dolphin's visuals will knock everyone's socks off.
PROOF: "In terms of graphics, Dolphin will be 33% above the performance of Playstation 2." - Alex Herr, Nintendo of Europe Managing Director, February 2000
The Real Deal: We've akready seen that the GameCube can produce less blocky games in comparison to the Playstation 2 and X-box. Halo, although I haven't played it, I have seen screenshots, and there are some pretty cubic graphics in that game, although it is a release title so that is to be expected. Grand Theft Auto 3 however, isn't a launch title, and that is full of blocky characters. Yet, the GameCube's main release title, Luigi's Mansion has nice rounded graphics, with only a few blocky edges.
SOUND
FACT: Dolphin games will be filled with CD-quality in-game music.
PROOF: "Dolphin's sonics will blow Playstation 2 and Dreamcast out of the water." - Julian Eggebrechtm President of Factor 5, February 2000.
The Real Deal: Ok, the music is definately going to be better than the N64's quality, but that's understandable. The N64 had to rely on a system similar to the old Midi systems on PC's so as to store music files that sounded like the proper thing, yet didn't take too much space on the cartridge. The chances of the quality actually beating that of the Dreamcast and Playstation 2 are slim though. The music will no doubt be just as good, considering the Dreamcast and PS2 use discs, however, there isn't much to improve on, so unless you got surround sound, there wont be much of a difference in the sounds.
INTERNET
FACT: Dolphin will be able to access the internet and Link up to the Game Boy Advance.
PROOF: "Both Dolphin and Game Boy Advance will feature a built-in modem." - Peter Main, Company Executive, November 1999
The Real Deal: The Game Boy Advance, as you already know, does not have a built in modem but can connect to the GameCube. The GameCube also doesn't have a built-in modem, yet this prooves Nintendo did have online gaming in mind when designing the console. The GameCube, instead, will have two ports for modems. One for a 56kbps modem, for the average UK internet user, and the other for a Broadband modem which will allow for some high speed gaming. The Game Boy Advance can send and recieve emails, but that is by the aid of third party Datels device called the World Port GBX for Game Boy Advance and Game Boy Color which connects directly to your phone line.
MOVIES
FACT: At some point, Dolphin will be able to play DVD movies.
PROOF: "DVD movie playback will be experimented with in Japan. We'll wait and see what the market's like here what the market's like here." - Jim Merrick, Nintendo technician, December 1999
The Real Deal: Ok, this is different to the announcements Nintendo have made more recently. Nintendo claim that Panasonic's 'Q' will never be released outside of Japan. Now they announced that before the 'Q' was released, so what that guy said about them experimenting in the Japanese market was utter cow-poo! Without even doing their market research, they have dictated that no one in the other three major markets: USA, Europe and Australia, will get a DVD playable GameCube.
GAMES
FACT: The world's greatest games will appear on Dolphin
PROOF: "With Dolphin, the creative possibilities are even more significant than with the N64." - Shigeru Miyamoto, General Mnager, January 2000.
The Real Deal: Well there are some good games, and there are some bad games. No console can boast to have all the best games because there will always be a single console-exclusive title that everyone who's played will instantly fall in love with. Games being good or not all depends on your personal tastes. So, if you're reading the magazine which was then called N64, chances are you're likely to consider Nintendo to be the best games creators out there, whereas if you're a Microsoft fan, you may consider Halo or Project Gotham Racing to be the best. It just all depends on tastes.
PRICE:
FACT: Dolphin will roll into the shops at an irresistable price point.
PROOF: "Dolphin needs to have a sub - $200 price point to make it friendly to the mass market." - George Harrison, Nintendo VP of Marketing, February 2000.
The Real Deal: Well Nintendo originally announced a £150 price tag for the UK, and to the shock of Playstation 2 fanboys, that's what we got - Until that is retailers decided that they wouldn't get enough cash out of that low a price and selfishly complained so as to make Nintendo reconsider a new retail price. The price is still low, but not much lower as the newly released X-box which was reduced by £100 last week. It is rumoured the Playstation 2 is going to drop in price soon, which means that the GameCube's price, which was originally very low in comparison, will seem around average.
RELEASE DATE:
FACT: Expect to get your hands on Dolphin by the end of this year. (2000)
PROOF: "Nintendo predict they'll sell 2 million Dolphin consoles by March 2001." - Investment firm Morgan Stanley Dean Witter, January 2000.
The Real Deal: Think about it, it's been nearly 1 and a half years since Christmas 2000, it seems ages ago, and we still haven't got the GameCube. Ok, Nintendo have taken their time, but that's not so much a bad thing. They've had chance to build up a decent line up of games, and have managed to get the publicity they need to make it a big seller.
So there we are, 'The Real Deal' on N64 (40) magazine's article "The Dolphin Jigsaw".
Note: The title, "The Dolphin Jigsaw", and everything under the main headings in capital letters is copied from N64 magazine. The headings "The Real Deal" is my own work based upon the originals.

Well, is that not a quote from the Nintendo of AMERICA Chariman!
And when I said about other retailers selling at £150, I meant that they'll probably stick another £20 or so ontop on the £130 - like the extra £20 or so they originally slapped onto the original £150.
Happy now?
> The interview was with the Chariman of NoA (Nintendo of AMERICA!!)
Um, not all of it. Infact, I said who said what. Shigeru Miyamoto aint American....
> Well, what comments would you expect to hear from a typical American
> who's also a massive Ninty fan! Also, with just a slight bit of biased
> thinking in his mind!

American? Unless you're talking about the bloke who wrote the original article in N64 magazine then I ain't got a clue what you're on about.
Just a correction, the price is now £134.99 and not around the £150-£170 price tag, due to the new price drop today by Nintendo.
But at least it showed Nintendo had high expectations of their new console, even 3 years ago! But it seems that they've been shown the truth, and even with an unbelievable price drop, they still may not end-up ontop!
