Consoles up’s and downs!!

Sony PlayStation™/ PSone™

Price: Special Reserve= £79.99
MVC= £98.99 (with Harry Potter game set)
HMV= £99.99 (with Harry Potter game set)
Best Game: Metal Gear Solid

Good Points:
· Has a wide variety of games
· Has a comfortable controller
· Has the Dual Shock controller
· Plays audio CD’s
Bad Points:
· Requires a multi-tap for multiplayer gaming
· Horrible colour

Nintendo Game Boy™/ Game Boy Colour™

Released: UNKNOWN
Price: Special Reserve= £58.99
MVC= £79.99 (with Pokémon Crystal)
HMV= £ NOT AVAILABLE
Best Game: Super Mario

Good Points:
· Small and compact
· Portable
· Has an adapter to plug into to the mains
· Colour varieties
· Many accessories available for it
Bad Points:
· Costs a fortune in batteries
· No built in light

Nintendo Game Boy™ Advance

Good Points:
· Variety of colours
· Portable

· Good graphics for a hand held console

Bad Points:
· Again, cost an arm and a leg in batteries
· Expensive for the actual console

Best Game: Goldeneye

Good Points:
· Doesn’t require a multi-tap for 4 player gaming
· Has a massive selection of games
· Has an easy to hold comfortable controller
· Most games don’t require a memory card
· Can buy a rumble pack
Bad Points:
· Uses expensive cartridges meaning the games cost up to £50 per game
· Can’t play audio
· Some games required an expansion pack

Sega Dreamcast™

Released: UNKNOWN

MVC= £ NOT AVAILABLE
HMV= £ NOT IN STOCK
Best Game: Shenmue

Good Points:
· Has one of the best games ever (Shenmue)
· Has a classy memory card (the VMU)
· Plays audio CD’s
Bad Points:
· Didn’t last on the market for long
· Dismal sales
· My DC blew up!! Hmmm

Good Points:
· Has the great Dual Shock 2 control pad (sensitivity feature)

· Can be placed horizontal or vertical
Bad Points:
· Requires a multi-tap for multiplayer gaming
· Not enough original games
· Release date kept on getting put back
· Not enough consoles were produced at launch

Microsoft XBox™

Released: 14th March 2002

Best Game: Halo

Good Points:
· Wide variety of games
· Built in Hard Drive
· Uses nVidia GeForce 3 graphics
· Has Dolby Surround Sound 5.1
· Cheap only 7 weeks after release
· It has a modem
Bad Points:
· Too big
· Green centre piece doesn’t light up
· Not many launch titles
· Many games converted from other consoles poorly done (not using XBox’s full potential)

Nintendo GameCube™

Released: 3rd May 2002
Price: Special Reserve= £164.99
MVC= £169.99
HMV= £169.99
Best Game: Star Wars: Rouge Squadron 2

Good Points:
· Non wired controller
· Small/compact
· Cheapest next-gen console at launch
· It has a modem (56k or Broadband!!)
· Uses new miniature discs
· You can choose between different colours for the console
· Lots of launch titles
· 128-bit console
· Can plug the Game Boy Advance into it
Bad Points:
· Doesn’t play audio and DVD
· It has a stupid handle on the back
· Nintendo have a mainly younger following


So, it has come clear that you should buy a GameCube from Special Reserve. I don’t want this topic to start a “GC is better then XBox” argument!

N.B These are my views and sources of info, therefore however wrong I maybe, I apologise before hand.

What are your veiws on the consoles?? What's your favourite console of all time??

Best game is the game I am or was most looking forward to. I have better ones, but they aren't released yet and won't be released in the near future.

Cheers man. That's what I thought when I decided to do this research. What do you guys think about some of the prices?? MVC are quite expensive. Nowhere sells N64's and it was also hard to find the DC. I originally did the Sega Saturn, but I couldn't do the good/bad points section, so I scrapped it!
