Recently when searching the Internet for a new mission for Operation Flashpoint, I came across a debate that had sprung up from a chat forum. A forum that was supposed to be used for comments on a mission had spiralled out of control into a worldwide argument about whose country is better. The two main rivals of course being England and America.

They’re where well over 100 messages from both sides of the Atlantic saying how great there country is and how the country sucked. I too found myself dragged into this ‘debate’ and posted about several messages on why England ruled and America was full of idiots. After I posted these messages, I came across a discovery.

English people are always going to say their country is the greatest when in an argument with another country, just as Americans do the same. It’s a no win situation.

Neither side will back down and all of a sudden change their mind, meaning this is a debate that will probably never end.

Taking a look at some of the threads here in SR, I can see almost the same type of argument being raged, only here England and America have been replaced with the Playstation 2 and the X-Box.

On one hand we have PS2 owners saying just how great their console is to the X-box, and how the games, controller and design put Microsoft’s effort to shame.
And on the other hand we have X-Box owners saying how fantastic their console is to the PS2 and how the technology, games and power show up Sony’s little black console.

Now I can’t see either side giving in and all of sudden saying ‘hey you right my console is complete crap, I’ll buy yours instead’ since both sides seem to ‘know’ the are right and the other console owners are wrong. This leaves us with a no win situation. Pretty much like UK vs. USA, it’s an argument that’ll never end.

I have posted three messages on separate threads concerning the x-box and ps2, but luckily I gave up after seeing the pointlessness of replying all time because I don’t agree with someone. I’d probably suggest to any of you regulars out there that you too should only post one or two messages and be done with it, since it doesn’t really matter what other people think about your console just so long your happy with it.

I don’t mind debates like this, but when they get out of control like most have here, it kind of gets on your nerves. I hope this post will show people how much waste of time the threads I mentioned actually are, and hopefully stop so many of you posting endlessly to make a point.

Anyway, I think I’ve made ‘my’ point thanks for reading

*adopts disappointingly diplomatic stance*

Why can't we all just get along?
