Sony don't have dark motives, they have the same motives as Sega and Nintendo to make a fortune.
The way they go about it however leaves me completely fustrated as they sell it as a social icon and it sells better than Nintendo and Sega systems which at the end of the day are that little bit better for games.
The 1st PS was great but relied heavily on other developers games. Making the PS2 hard to develop, this added with the fact that the GC and DC are easy to develop for means that Sony have litterally nailed their own coffin.

It will happen slowly. First small companies will leave the PS2 as Nintendo's and Sega's continue to sell better. Half way through, the bigger companies will develop for all the consoles leaving the PS2 with no new exclusive games which will cause the PS2 to shrivel up and die.

Nintendo and Sega both made the same mistake but survived because of their ability to make their own great games.
Sony won't be able to pull itself out of it's noose!

I may be a little biased but everything I've said here is purely fact! (except for my predictions which should come true)

In the further future though, the only company who will win will be the one that signs ME up to make their games! THAT is something you can all look forward to!

DAN_UK you confused me by having two really simular topics. ANT your not buying as console until the new year? do you expect to get one? my mate has to wait until next year and he ordered it around April/May, not very good, Sony will make loads of money, and I think they already made a fortune, and so have Sega and nintendo, no need to say that Microsoft has, still don't see how they will make good games, i have only seen one so far, and I stil havn't seen a console!! never know it might be good enough for my money. I totally lost what you guys were talkng about, sorry if I didn't follow on.

I know that the PS2 is the most anticipated console of all time but so was the saturn and that didn't save it.
I only really wrote it because some playstation zealot annoyed me. I think that the playstation may fail (like I said in this topic) or may not fail (like I said a week ago).

Either way, I don't care anymore as it doesn't affect me seeing as I won't be getting one.

I agree with Fogmaster for once (only joking!), I'm not getting a PS2 until the new year, when there will be alot more good games out, well, there seems to be if you read PSM Issue 57. And some people have said that the games that are out now are very good, and if Fogmaster thinks Tekken is all right, and he doesn't like the series, then I will probably like it a lot, as I love the Tekken series. RR5 isn't actually meant to be that bad and it looks lovely. GT 2000 looks absolutely gorgeous and after the success of the previous 2, GT 2000 should play brilliantly as well. I'm afraid to all you DC fans saying MSR and Ferrari 355 will overhaul GT 2000, although they look gorgeous and re meant to be brilliant games, I don't think they can beat GT 2000, but they can beat RR5 after the complete and utter **** RR4. There's also FF 10 or wahtever, a new game like the FF series called Eternal Ring or something, which looks great as well, there's another new alien shoot 'em up soon as well as Soul Reaver 2 and more. So I wouldn't underestimate the PS2 yet. Also, I'm thinking of getting a DC for christmas, looking at the great line-up Sega have.
So to sum up, "Do not underestimate the power of the PlayStation 2!" Sorry everyone, and, "errrrr, do Sega have a saying??? Oh well, don't underestimate Sega either. Or Nintendo for that matter."
Thanks for reading, Ant.

DAN_UK, I read the first few lines and judged you to be wrong, the PS2 is already great, it can't fail, there is already a waiting list until late May next year, and thats only in our country, most of those people will not sell the machine back to the company because of their pride, and angry freinds wanting revenge on Sony, I would explain but my dinners on the table, I have played a Sony PS2 and the two games I played were alright, but then i'm not the biggest fan of Tekken so Tekken tag did not go down too well, but the racing game was excellent, and it is only in its first year of productuion, just think what the games will be like in two years time, don't reply to this by saying, "a yes, buit the X-Box and G-Cube will have better games" doesn't matter, if you have one of those you will not be bothered about the PS2.

Just wanted to bring the other side up.

I hope that Sega sales don't decrease, their systems cool, and they need some money to make some more games, otherwise it would be another flop, but their system will be excellent for this Christmas.

I guess the fact that the initial console shortage will mean less sales for Sony, and more for Sega and Nintendo this festive season, and the other fact that the PS2 is a bug to program for - and the fact that the PS2 games are selling about as well as Dreamcast games in Japan - which actually shows DC games are selling better in proprtion as there are less DC sales, and the fact that many develpoers have given up in Japan creating games for the PS2 as they simply cannot create - and the other fact that many of these developers have pledged their future to Microsoft's XBox - which we are all ignoring because we all know it will either fail miserably or because it is just another rival for the Apple Mac and Imac machines.

So, the PS2 in one statement.

'The fastest selling console in Japan to date thanks to it's added DVD playability making it among the cheapest ( and poorest) DVD players in Japan. the games are selling not as well as would have hoped for with the average being 1.75 games per console sold - not the expected and target of 6.

So, while Sony continually LOSE money everytime they make and sell the PS2, it seems they might just forget about any plans to make the already announced PS3 - never mind lads...

Oh, and doesn't it look ugly! If you hate them then just laugh because they are really crying inside - you know, with that 'emotion chip'
(cackles of laughter)
