I konw this should be in the XbOx forum, but I put it in here so too put it against the Cube.

Well, Microsoft have made a mess of it, and cut the ridiculous price. Still £199 is a fab price for the console, but if you are deciding which of the two to get (not including the PS2) then here is MY opinion:

- PRICE - The 'Cube is cheaper, and on this very lovely site you can buy two controllers, a memory card and the fantastic Rogue Leader (and of course the 'Cube) for only £16 more than an XBox by itself - Not much of a hard decision is it?!!

-GAMES- All a matter of opinion. The XBOx has some fantastic looking games, but from What I can see, it does not have much on the horizion COMPARED to the Cube. This may be becasue I am not that interested in it, but look at the Cube - Mario, Zelda, F-Zero, PD, Donkey Kong all still to come, plus possibles like Final Fantasy, and hot looking titles like Eternal Darkness, and Kameo. From what i have seen of the XBox, it has Halo 2 (the Shining Light!!) and Operation Flashpoint - YAY! A re designed version of a PC game of early last year!! FUN! Of course there are more, which you may know more about - I am sure there are - but from my viewpoint, I know which one wins - The Gamecube.

-COMPANIES- You may think this does not matter, but I think it does. Yes I know Nintendo can be pig headed and slightly odd, but I would rather have them than Microsoft anyday. Yes Microsoft may be compensating the peopole who bought the XBox before, but in my eyes it just seems like they are buying people off to stop them complaining about its mistake. Nintendo has that 'magic' that you might have heard of. If you have not been touched by it while playing a Nintendo classic, then there is nothing wrong with the game - there is something wrong with YOU. They make the best games ever. Period.

Well thats my short (diased probably) opinion - Remember, my opinion, which is of course, the truth!!

WHAT???
How about we stop wasting our time. Pringle man, your post was just a blatent go at the xbox. The NINTENDO GAMECUBE (always fun to type it like that) isnt out for what, 14 days, so lets just wait and see what happens at launch. and how the public react to it. The xbox has had an AWFUL launch over here and in japan. It is the first pot-shot of knocking the ps2 of its large heverly amored pedistall then the gamecube will bring in the uzis and nuclear missiles to finish the job. As long as the gamecube has a better launch than the xbox (not hard) then the will cork it.

FUN YOU CAN HAVE IS NOT AVALABLE IN THE SHOPS!!!

I laugh when I find how short Ninty fans' memories can be...

After all, Ninty have NEVER dropped the price of a console by £100 just after launch have they ;)

Oh, and while MS offer gamers 2 free games and a controller for buying at the high price, Ninty didn't just "forget" to tell people that they could also get a mear 1 free game when their price dropped? Oh, and even then, Ninty didn't just send out some of the worst games on the system did they?

Oh, how I laugh!

Ok, heres my opinion.

PRICE

Yeah the Gamecube is cheaper as a console by say £30. Add a memory card to that though and its only £15 cheaper. Adding that as X-Box doesn't need a memory card. The X-Box has built in boadband, something that has to be purchased seperate for the GC and besides the superior specs that everyone knows about by now, you can upload your favourite CD tracks to be used in certain games. I won't go into what the hard drive can do because I've done that loads of times over the past couple of months now and I'm pretty sure knowone needs to hear it again.
The thing with the GC is that the memory cards in particular really come back to haunt you. It won't take long before you've had to buy 3 or 4 cards at £15 to save your game progress, unless you plan on having very few games. So the difference between the consoles soon disappears.

GAMES

Just as you said its a matter of opinion here and will vary. You got all funny and clever about the X-Box getting the likes Operation Flashpoint, but at the same time you mentioned a big list of Nintendo remakes. What you have to remember is that a lot of people (particularly people that like PC games) will be looking forward to games like this and laugh just as hard at you for wanting yet another Mario / Zelda game.
As for upcoming games, I have to disagree with you on the number of quality titles coming to X-Box. Whereas you have the likes of Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, etc, X-Box owners have the likes of the following to look forward to...
Star Wars - Knight Of The Old Republic, Project Ego, Toejam & Earl 3, Crazy Taxi 3, Bruce Lee, Mech Assault, Yager, Tekki, Buffy, Dreadnoughts, etc.
This is without including Halo 2 and Operation Flashpoint which you mentioned. By the looks of it, Sega will be bringing Streets Of Rage to the X-Box too which is great for people like me who loved that game.

COMPANIES

Personally I'm pretty happy with Microsoft's decision to cut the price of the console. It certainly doesn't help Nintendo's launch now as the price difference was really the biggest thing Nintendo had against the X-Box. As for compensating existing owners, its not very fair to say "oh they're just paying people off to shut them up !" Its not as though they had to give us anything. I remember Nintendo doing this before, giving a game to people who bought the console before the price cut. Would you still say they were just trying to "shut them up !" ? Didn't think so.
As for Nintendo's "magic", yeah, they've made some great games no doubt about it, but sometimes its not always great to play the same magic over and over again.
Metroid Prime looks about the best of the bunch as far as Nintendo's projects go, but I think the reason I feel that way is cause the last time I really took control of Samos was on the old SNES. So a leap from then to the GC will look a damn sight different. But all the other titles that we've seen in the past have been milked on every Nintendo format since being introduced. Its not that its really bad to have these titles coming, but when these titles are the spearhead of Nintendo's push, it just seems a bit anti-climax. Afterall, a lot of these titles are essentially the same thing, just prettier graphics and the odd little add on (i.e. Mario having a back pack).
