Sonic, Mario, Pacman have all used there main focus on gameplay and they have ever since the Mega Drive and Snes were released in the early ninties. As time moved on graphics came into the picture more than ever and they started to play the main role in games which took away a big part off gameplay and the result, games that were not satisfactory. However, games are finally reaching a great balance of both Graphics and Gameplay with awesome Sound added. Max Payne, Metal Gear Solid 2, Halo, Deus EX, Perfect Dark, Golden Eye and Tomb Raider have all showed us that there is a healthy balance between the finer points of gaming.
Early next-generation titles were just not delivering the gameplay that was required to make them a worthy purchase but recently (in the past 5 months) games are hitting the right buttons and delivering great all round 2nd generation titles that are fun to play but also contain awesome graphics. I feel that Max Payne was possibly the first title to give us %100 all round satisfaction and showing us what the future of gaming holds.
Gameplay is definatley my most important factor when purchasing a new game, graphics and sound are also very important but I like a game that will keep me hooked for days on end. I feel that the gaming market on PS2 and X-BOX have hit a superb era where they deliver class accross the board. I have recently purchased an X-BOX and the titles I have played so far have been nothing short of first class and they are good fun to play.
When I got my PS2 a lot of the games were not fun to play but they had good to superb graphics, but now they seem to have sorted everything out and the future of gaming is looking brighter than ever before.
Games are taking longer to come out but when they do they cause an immense stir as they show us what we should expect from next-generation titles. Gaming to me has never been so much fun as it is now, more and more people are getting into it and I feel that they are getting in at just the right time.
Gaming is now more fun than ever before, and as we see functions such as Bullet Time and interactive cut-scenes hitting the market things do not look to be slowing down at all. MGS2 was the first title that I have played to give interactive cut-scenes which effect the way the game turns out in the end. Bullet Time (only on Max Payne at the moment) is truly a gaming masterpiece that I would have never imagined be included into a game until now, whatever next will be used in a game to enhance the way we game and how much fun we will get out of it?
I am not saying that graphics and sound are not a factor in playing games but they seem to come hand in glove more than ever before, games with great graphics are also containing the best gameplay, this is rare as before we had either one or the other which made the game not worth getting unless the genre was loved specifically or people who were fanatics.
Games are now worth every bit of money in which we invest in them instead of games being good rentals they are now essential purchases and must not be missed by anyone who owns the console.
What do you think about how gameplay has changed over the years? Do you agree that games are now striking the right balance? Do you think that this is the most exciting era to hit the gaming market? Or do you think that games have always conatined excellent gameplay? I feel that this is the most imporatant time ever in gaming as console clash to give us the maximum amount of pleasure acroos the board. Games are now much more fun to play and look at and a lot of the games out now are well worth a purchase, it is just which one to choose?
