We have advanced games consoles coming out of our ears, to be honest it's a little bit more than we can chew.
It's all thanks to various developers like Microsoft and Nintendo and not forgetting the electronics giant Sony who have kindly thrust before us incredibly advance games consoles.
Nintendo are bringing us the gamecube, Microsoft have brought us the machine which I call the box from down under (Otherwise known as the Xbox) and Sony have brought us What could be called black beauty (Otherwise known as the Sony PlaystaionII)
I feel that all these have been thrown at us to quickly and possibly even to soon.
We barely had a chance to get used to the PS2 when another console was launched and thrust before our noses.
It's a bit like buses. You don't see any for hours and then they all come at once.
Crazy isn't it?
But that's the way the world works so I guess we can't argue.
Maybe though these consoles that get thrown at us may be a bit to advanced for us.
Well no not really because were a surprisingly technologically advanced species for our age, but then again how am I to know there aren't any other species out there in the universe that are older than us but aren't as advanced as us.
But I guess it depends on the species.
In other words, if we are smart enough we should be able to advance technologically fairly quickly, but If we're not then we may take just a few more decades.
Anyway enough of that.
As we become even more technologically advance so will are consoles, so what may we have to look forward too.
Well Virtual reality is a very strong possibility.
Virtual reality does exist but it's not yet widely used for gaming purposes.
I say YET because at sometime or another some large developer are bound invent a VR unit just for gaming.
Expect VR units (If they come) to be rather expensive.
So we know about one thing that will more than likely to come in the future but what about the rest?
Well nobody knows we'll just have to play our Sony Playstations or Gamecubes and wait for the next stage in console evolution.
Still we have our Xbox's to keep us amused whilst we wait.
With great games like Halo, Wreckless and Project Gotham Racing to keep us amused I hardly think we'll get bored.
It's even less likely now that online gaming is almost upon us.
Online gaming will offer a huge variety of games and add-ons that you will be able to purchase or download for free.
Now that's enough to keep even me amused.
Handheld gaming is another thing that we have progressed in a lot in over the years.
It's come from a big huge grey bulky thing that you could just about take with you on the bus to a tiny little monster that uses it's massive 32-bit processor to the max.
You've probably guessed what it is by now and if I think what I think you guessed is right then it'll be none other that the Game Boy Advance but if I am wrong then you obviously need to brush up on your gaming knowledge.
Handheld gaming units are indeed hard things for developers to develop.
When making these creations of pure power developers must take into consideration that they are on a smaller scale than their bigger relatives. That of course means that they probably won't be able to be as powerful as their relatives but that doesn't say that the games aren't good.
Take F-Zero-X Maximum velocity for example, It's got gorgeous graphics and fantastic gameplay.
Don't forget it's more powerful than the NES and the SNES so as handhelds go I think that's good enough, in fact it's perfect.
So from all this gaming wizardry a decade or so ago who'd have though we'd have what we have today?
But sure enough we do and who am I to argue? On second thoughts, who's anybody to argue?
Why?
Because gaming is far to often taking for granted when it shouldn't be, besides one day it might all be gone then what would we do?
As the old saying goes You don't know what you've got until it's gone!
Thanks for reading.
But as I said who am I to argue? There all gonna be great.
But Sony only just managed to hold of the strong competition of the N64.
Well that's another topic that went down well.
It's a 128-bit machine, and it's specs are very similar to that of the GameCube's, just like how Nintendo and Sega's games have always had notable simillarities - making them gaming rivals.
I only believe that it was released 'too early' due to the sudden-failure of the Saturn, leaving Sega out of the console war!
But then again, the PSX was 32-bit, and was able to hold off the N64, the Saturn, and the Dreamcast during it's surprising 5 year reign! And it's still well-loved today!
But then again, nothing really 'new' or exciting came with the PSX, except for BLACK CD's, Memory Cards, and being a console that could so easily be chipped for import and pirate games!
I don't think that at the time we were quite ready for the Dreamcast and it's on-line games. We preffered the PC back then. But I feel the time is better now, and we should see some real 'gaming wizardry' in this gaming generation!
I don't though - I often find myself marvelling at the wondrous gameworlds that exist solely for us to play and explore.
Many of the games available today are truly amazing, and I never lose sight of this fact.
And the best thing is: games will continue to just get better and better.
The future's bright.
I can't wait to get there.....
