There is a method that enables you to play around 20 mins of vcd on PS2 (don't know why only 20 mins) you need to mess around using software to create the vcd in a format that the PS2 can handle and then burn the disc. At the moment it's really not worth doing, and it's piracy anyway.
People are working on better solutions, if you search around you'll find all sorts of projects going on for PS2. There's already a master system emulator.
I have several VCD's, and none of them play in my PS2.
