I want to upgrade my processor, but I am not sure exactly it is I need. I have got an AMD k2 450mhz at the moment, but I want a 1.5ghz processor. DO I need to get a new motherboard, or will I be ok as long as I get an AMD athalon or something like that? Can anyone advise me here?

U'll definitely need a new motherboard (unfortunately), best go with something that will support DDR RAM for the future, if ya loaded get yaself a MSI 420n, and get an Athlon XP or just an Athlon, personally I'd stay away from Intel, they have a tendancy to crash and burn out as they are made overclocked. Also, unless ya have fairly newish graphics card I get a newer one, otherwise playing games won't be any different just by getting a new CPU.

There is NO DOUBT that you will need a new motherboard. K2-450 works on socket7, Duron/athlon/XP run on Socket A.

Ok....if you = cash go for P4. That will get you a stable platform.
if you = skint or techno junkie (like me) go for AMD XP or high end Athlon or even high end Duron. And don't forget your cooling !!!!!!

I suspect you'll need a new motherboard. First you'll have to find out what style your case is (should say somwhere, in invoices etc, if you keep them), then choose one, I'd advise a SOCKET A one so it will take AMD processors, (AMD athlon have slight performace advantage over P4's)
