I don't mean to have a go - but it seems you got a bit muddeled in regards to this news story - you have mixed up the Sega of Europe with Sega of America - because you state that we in europe have an internet service! Bah! That is Sega Net and that is in the USof A.
I am pleased that so many people have chosen Dreamcast, as it really is a great console, but get your facts right!!
This is what they say.

News on the Upwire: Sega enjoy Dreamcast sales boost
Web posted on 16/10/00.
Sega Europe have announced that they have reached all their first year sales targets for the Dreamcast.
The Dreamcast has now sold a whopping 1 million units throughout Europe, thanks largely to titles like Virtua Tennis and Dead Or Alive 2. The Dreamcast has confirmed itself as the machine to own and Sega is fast dispelling any doubts that people may have entertained after the ill-fated Sega Saturn.

Another reason for soaring Dreamcast sales may be the on-line gaming that it provides. The Dreamarena - Sega's on-line community has taken off in a big way. Over 400,000 people have signed up for Sega's internet service, and now on-line gaming has never been so easy to do.

CEO of Sega Europe, JF Cecillon said, 'These results pay credit to everyone who has helped make Dreamcast such a success. The ongoing support of the development community means gamers can look forward to some stunning new games over the next few months and beyond. Our timing is perfect, we have a stack of top quality games and new peripherals launching in the next two months. Sega are poised to take advantage of short supply by the competition'. The Dreamcast can only get more popular as time goes by, with stunning games like Metropolis Street Racer, Shenmue and Half-Life on the horizon.

We are also offering you the fantastic deal of a Dreamcast and DVD player for a meagre £299.98! This fantastic hardware combination will give you enough power to rival the PlayStation 2! For more information about this brilliant deal, click here.

Makes sense to me...

Anyway, Sega have gone WAY OVER their expected amount as well, not just reached it. And its more than a million.
