I have just finished Jedi Knight 2 and it took me around 20 hours. Great, i thought as i killed the final boss, the end cut-scene. My reward for all my hard work. But alas! What followed was (in my humble opinion) one of the worst endings in gaming history. No titanic battles between starships, nor even an attempt at humor. Instead, it was a crappy, predictable [insert word to convey sufficient contemp here, because i can't think of one].
Am i the only one who feels like this? Or are there other people out there who also like to get a decent reward from their work?
P.S. Other games with rubbish endings include:
Return to Castle Wolfenstien
Max Payne
Any others?
It was quite a personal adventure I suppose.. and having the Jedi Acadamy explode would have been a little over the top?
Hopefuuly its just a leader to an expansion disk?
And maybe i was a little harsh on Max Payne.

Yes Jedi Knight 2 had a slightly disappointing ending, but the game itself makes up for it plenty, particularly if you are a multiplayer fan. Of course the maps in multiplayer aren't as good as the original Jedi Knight ones but then I expect that will be fixed with downloadable maps. A good start would be to make the carbonite chamber work as it did in the original (you could even use the force to flik the switch, but most people got out like Luke does in the film) and the original death star level had some destructible parts that no longer feature, including the window which Darth broke when throwing things at Luke and created a vacuum (also recreated in the level, a masterpiece of multiplayer magic was Jedi Knight). Oh and there's no Darth Vader or Protocol Droid skins, which is a real shame.
Anyway, Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Max Payne both had great endings I thought, maybe you mistakenly skipped them? Of course Max Payne's one wasn't full of action which may have been what you missed but then RTCWs ending was full of action so I don't understand why you don't like either of them, something you'll just have to explain infront of a court... or here.
Anyway, the worst ending in the world must have been Medal Of Honour: Allied Assault at number 1 with no ending at all (two words can describe it, though I wont tell you which). Half-Life comes a close second with it's shoddy mess to round off a story which started okay and soon became dull and irrelevant, only the gameplay kept you going and it dropped off too towards the end. Infact considering there is to be a Half-Life 2 and taking the ending of the original into account I can't see how the sequel could possibly work. Actually there is one way, it's not great but it's the only remote possibility (there are no handy ones) and form what I've heard hasn't even been considered by the developers. Really Half-Life's ending maybe deserves the number one spot for managing to ruin the sequel before it's even made. I can't explain why without spoiling the ending and I don't want anyone accidentally reading it who wanted to find out for themselves, so you'll just have to take my word. Believe me though, it is bad and I'm sure many other people have been thinking the same thing.
Great endings of our time, well Anachronox was a game I played through recently (not a new game but well worth buying, it will never be dated and it's not that old anyway). It was superb all the way through and they managed to make a story to rival any book/film story you have seen. Very rare to see such brilliance in a game, unfortunately it was really designed to be the first in a series of at least two (the ending is sort of cliffhanger like but not so bad on it's own). So go forth, buy Anachronox (if you can find it, Special Reserve aren't doing too well at stocking great games, which have had less publicity than average, at the moment) and hopefully a sequel will be made that's even better than the original. Try www.eb.uk.com, that's twice now I've suggested that site, their prices are worse than Special Reserves for most things (the same at best) but they do seem to stock more older/budget games. Oh and it's only £14.99, you may even be able to get it cheaper elsewhere.
