Rare’s main titles include Banjo Kazooie, now what the hell is the point, no matter how hard they try Banjo Kazooie is no Mario! Actually the first one was all right the semi-sequel of Donkey Kong was good at the start and then died and Banjo Tooie oh my god who made this! Then there is the Mario Kart clones they make, Diddy Kong Racing and Mickey’s speedway jump to mind and again this doesn’t come close to Nintendo’s own. Jet Force Gemini didn’t sell too well and got bad response from the general public although it wasn’t all that bad. You see Rare are good but they don’t come close to Nintendo, they aren’t as good as other second Part Camelot, their adult titles aren’t on par with Silicon Knights and I’m unsure of their First Person Shooter (Perfect Dark) can match up with Retro Studio’s Metroid. And then the two games that are eternally thank Rare for making; Conker and Perfect Dark going multi-format will be a benefit to Nintendo and their fans. Conker’s Bad Fur Day didn’t do so well sales wise, now the small percentage Nintendo have over Rare does mean that all Rare games will appear on the Gamecube and there is no fear on that. Now Conker would sell better on the PS2 and X-box and so releasing this game on other formats will surly make this game more popular and in turn keep my favourite game series alive (and my website), a game that probably will always remain unheard of on a Nintendo platform may do better multi-formatted. Second Perfect Dark, now the advantage of this is Internet, if this game appeared on all consoles then we could have inter-console gaming going on here something which all gamers will love and Nintendo doing everything for the gamers will support this.
If you are worried about the loss of Conker and Perfect Dark I wouldn’t, Conker never sold well on the N64 and considering the amount of advertisement and man hours (4 and a bit years) it probably made a loss rather than a gain and so going multi-format will make the game more popular with more Gamecube owners hearing their Playstation owning buddies talking about it and bumping up sales. Again back with Perfect Dark it is a good game but then Nintendo have loads of up-coming First Person Shooters, exclusive titles like Metroid and Die Hard and multi-format ones like Timesplitters 2, Turok Evolution, Agent Under Fire, Phoenix Rising, Shoot to Kill (is that multi-format???) etc… on top of Perfect Dark means that the Gamecube will still be a target for First Person shooter players. Another sad fact is that Rare a company that can make games Nintendo need like Killer Instinct or using their expert racing knowledge for a realistic racer but they don’t so do Nintendo need them? I think not in fact the loss of Rare is very promising to a deep seated Nintendo fans like me because they’ll lose Donkey Kong and Strafex will agree with me that, that is a GOOD thing.
The series will either go with Nintendo, it would mean Nintendo are making the next Mario beater and this will be phenomenal, as good as Rare are they are no Nintendo their platformers show this and if Shiguru Miyamoto made another Donkey Kong game like the first it will be ground breaking, and even if it is the other developers under Nintendo’s wing it will still be ground breaking, Intelligent Studio’s would be a great company to make this game as they can capture the old feel of the classic games in modern titles such as Paper Mario, it was storming and felt new and up to date yet had something familiar that I hadn’t felt since I played Mario World. Alternatively (and hopefully) Nintendo will give the license to Camelot, the RPG, Sports Company will be brilliant if they had this title to make as they are so good at making games, Mario Tennis, Mario Golf and Golden Sun from them have all been storming successes. I am a big fan of the Donkey Kong character and after Donkey Kong 64 I feel it’s about time Nintendo changed its designer. Starfox again I was almost disappointed at this being an RPG game from Rare, I’d rather enjoy a next gen space shooter from Miyamoto instead here he is hitting Dinosaurs with a staff. It does look like a good game but if Rare are staying with Nintendo I hope this is a one off, as I couldn’t cope with another RPG/adventure Nintendo character even with the space shooting sections.
Losing Rare may lose Nintendo money (although they do take a while to make games), but smaller developers like Camelot, Silicon Knights and Retro Studios may get their chance to shine. Metroid as Nintendo’s front FPS brilliant, a horror company making games for the Gamecube only fantastic and A brilliant RPG, Sports designer out of this world, it is about time Eternal Darkness, Mario Tennis and Metroid got us excited and not Kameo and Perfect Dark simply because an old favourite is making it. As I say Rare are a good company and it will be sad to see them go but if we have a Donkey Kong as good as Rare’s first versions and a Star Fox returning to his roots then as far as I’m concerned they can go make themselves more money.

Anyway, I think it would be foolish if Nintendo games were released on other formats. One thing, perhaps the only thing, that makes Nintendo appealing is the uniqueness of their games. Dead or Alive games appear on both PS2 and X-Box, but Mario and his like can only be seen on Nintendo consoles. If Nintendo started sending their games to other consoles or the PC then there'd be very little point in buying a Nintendo console and Nintendo would be just as well to concentrate their efforts into making games and not make consoles (not a bad idea actually, especially if they stick to the PC where they wont be funding thier old enemies, although the competition might be too tough since their game types might not really fit onto the PC).
One more thing, greater recognition of games which aren't pushed by hype would be nice (of course many good games get free hype from magazines etc. or are funded by ever growing publishing houses such as EA or Microsoft). Go out and buy Anachronox (for the PC but I've heard it might come out on other formats, or already be out even), it's a great game and a sequel must be made to continue the excellent story.

Erm.......
The problem with Conker was that no-one really took notice of it untill after it's release. But with a game like Halo, which has been massively-anticipated since it's launch build-up, it will and has already become a well-loved game from day 1. And GTA 3 is another example.
If the original Conker game on the SNES was a lot better then maybe Bad Fur Day would've been anticipated higher.
As it was seen as another Rare FPS (following Goldeneye), Perfect Dark was quite highly anticipaed and did very well in the sales (compared to other N64 games at the time). And I also agree that a multi-format version would work wonders for multiplayer gaming.
Nice post too. :D

Isnt that like saying that Nintnedo shifted a few million GameCubes without a Mario title...
They would be much better of not making any more Mario games!
Has Zelda been released yet? ... Better scrap that too! :)
But Nintendo would never make a game in the same style as Conkers bad fur day, so i really hope RARE are hard at work or at least planning a sequel to it.
Rare must have made some profit on Conkers bad fur day...Surely...Especially seeing as it was £60 a pop in some places. heh.
I would love to see some of the games based on the classics made by Nintendo, or one of their second party developers. Donkey Kong 64 was ok, but nothing special unlike Donkey Kong Country.
It's not like Rare release loads and loads of good games anymore. They release good games. Just not enough, and many similar.
As long as I get a decent GameCube game of Perfect Dark, I don't care what Rare do :)
