If you have this channel I’d advise you to tape those programmes as if you like classic films/TV, you won’t regret it. (Most episodes are also available on dvd if you don’t have Granada Plus)
The Persuaders is an absolutely brilliant old show. Although made in 1971, way before my time, I bought the dvd’s because I love Roger Moore, and it has turned out to be my favourite programme ever! Only 24 episodes were ever made, but each one is great.
So what’s it about?
Two charismatic leads, Roger Moore as the upper crust aristocrat Lord Brett Sinclair, and Tony Curtis as the Brooklyn born tough guy Danny Wilde are drawn together by a retired judge to fight crime.
It’s Chalk and cheese stuff; as the mismatched globetrotting and resourceful yet irresponsible international playboys fight crime whilst getting into all sorts of capers with girls, cool cars, fisty-cuffs, adventure, action, exotic locations and plenty of tongue-in-cheek humour.
What makes The Persuaders so good is the on screen partnership of Moore & Curtis with the acting style and spontaneity of the two leads a joy to watch, with Moore reeling off hilarious anecdotes about his old stuffy relatives.
Tape the first episode, if you don’t like it then never mind, but you may actually like it. Being a fan of Moore and of old 60’s & 70’s films, when I saw the first episode I was hooked.
You should give 'The Persuaders' a look, you'll miss out on a great programme if you don't.... trust me.
