ACCLAIM FOCUSES ON XBOX
In its latest financial statement, the US publisher reveals a majority of Xbox titles due for release over the next financial year
15:49 Acclaim has posted its financial results for the latest fiscal year and outlined its multiformat plans for 2003. Furthermore, the company expressed a shift in focus, with more titles planned for Xbox than any other format.
Acclaim posted impressive profit increases over the last year and attributed the brisk trade to titles like All-Star Baseball 2003: "Our second quarter simultaneous launch of All-Star Baseball 2003 across all platforms," said CEO Gregory FischBach, "underscored our commitment to creating great products on schedule, which appeal to the increasing mass-market consumer audience."
62 titles are planned for the fiscal year of 2003, including 18 for Xbox, 17 for PS2, 14 for GameCube and 13 for GBA, making Xbox the lead platform for the company over the next twelve months.
Major titles in the works for this year include Turok: Evolution, due across all next-gen formats, Chris Edward's Aggressive Inline, Vexx, Burnout and Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 3, due early 2003.
Expect plenty more coverage on all of Acclaim's major products from E3 next month.

More titles for XBox than any other platform, eh?
I wonder if any of those will be Rare titles? ;-)
Anyway, it's good to see that despite the slightly slower than anticipated start, developers still realise the XBox has a lot of potential and are still giving it maximum support.
Looks like it won't be going the way of the DreamCast, so that's a relief.
Afterall, if X-Box has the top PS2 titles, along with games such as Halo and its other exclusives, people will look at the X-Box more and decide its the console for them.
PS2 is a strong competitor with good titles under its belt. But I think Microsoft can definatly give them a run for their money.
Of course a lot of muppets just think of Japan as the only country in the world when it comes to console sales and focus on its sales there.
Don't think anyone has to worry about X-Box doing a Dreamcast right now because its sales are fine in the States. And although the X-Box only apparently sold 48,000 consoles at launch here compared to PS2's 52,000, a lot more games were sold with each console. If I remember right, PS2 registered as shifting 92,000 games at launch while the X-Box came away with 108,000.
So really its not doing bad with its target audience.
I had another look at the Gamecube today and I'm still not budged on my opinion of it.
Rogue Leader looks great, Monkey Ball looks a laugh, but most titles are just not really appealing to me. And looking at magazines, it looks like the games will be just as slow to come out on Gamecube as they were for the N64 before it.
Theres just too much milking the same cows again. Not that Zelda is crap or anything, but they seem to tell the same story over and over again with little differences. Theres no real link (no pun intended) between the games to make it an ongoing story.
As for Mario, classic character, but Mario sunshine looks like a busier, prettier Mario 64. Its like seeing another N64 but with better graphics.
