Doh..... :D

Yes, there are 4 ports on the system, 2 on the mobo and 2 on an additional card which is plugged directly onto the mobo.

Yes, I can boot to the O/S and as I think I said the USB port(s) will recognise that the device is plugged in but it just will not work.

Yes I've checked my Device Manager and no there are not any yellow circles, everything is showing that it's all installed correctly. Plus the USB ports are all there and not indicating a problem.
Am just going to try the new drivers, will let you know how I get on.
be careful though make sure you do have the right drivers, we had someone come into channel once asking for the drivers and once he updated, he found out he had the SiS chipset which provided us with much comical relief.
I've used the above site for the 4in1 VIA drivers but I know both North and south are VIA chips (Chips on Mobo have VIA and the motherboard manuals states so).
Other than that, Have you tried another USB port ? Is the power pack plugged into the system ? Have you checked your Device Manager and does anything come up with Yellow circles and Question marks. I know my USB 2.0 ports did this until I installed the drivers for them.
Best of luck.
Ok so I've got a problem, have a MS Sidewinder Precision Pro joystick (USB) and have spent the last 3 hours trying to get it working under Win98SE.
Installed the program (plus drivers) as per manual, plug in USB connection and check the gameport settings and it says "Not Connected" wtf?
Even when you plug the joystick into the USB it runs through the "Found New Hardware, adding it for you blah blah blah" message/box on screen, but still it says it's not connected.
I've been to the MS website and downloaded the patch for this joystick but still no joy. Motherboard has a VIA chipset which I've heard could be a problem......oh no :-(
Anyone experienced this before and if so have they managed to get round the problem?
