I read this in an article in Revs and I think it's a pathetic attitude to take towards drivers. Some senior ranking policeman thinks it's a great idea to electronically limit all new cars to 70mph. Would you buy a car electronically limited to 70mph? I sure as hell wouldn't, and if I did I would get it removed ASAP.
Don't get me wrong, I don't regularly speed. I could go almost twice our national limit if I felt like it, yet I never break the limit in 30 or 40 zones and only rarely do soon motorways or A roads. It's not because I have a slow car - far from it, it's because I
a) Don't want to injure anyone else &
b) I don't want to get caught!

We don't need electronic limiters on cars, we just need to make the public more conscious of what speed does.

I just hate the idea of the government/police regulating my car. If I want a 170mph supercar, I will go out and buy one. If I want a crappy little car that can barely manage 70 I will buy one. I will speed if I want to, I will stick to the limits if I want to. I my current choices have been buy a fast-ish car and stick to the limits. The best 2 methods of speed control are a conscience and a right foot, and I have both.

I hope to god the limiters they want to fit don't blow your car up over a certain speed. Although that would be quite a good deterrant....
