As the topic suggests I hate abortion. I'm sorry but I do. If anyones had family members who have had abortions, I don't wish to offend you but I hate the damn thing.

So what's brought me over here to discuss my view on abortion all of a sudden? Well originally it was in R.S. classes but most recently on the television soaps Eastenders and Coronation Street where abortion is a topic as common as the amount of times the shows on television. Okay, I watch Eastenders, we are not here to abuse me for watching soaps, this is for my rant about abortion.

One of the Eastenders characters was thinking of having an abortion last week. The character Melanie Owen, Tazmin Outwaithe, wanted to abort her kid because the father was someone she thought was evil and no longer loved. Then on Coronation Street some other woman wanted her child aborted as she didn't and never did want a child.

It enraged me. It might not be real, but it enraged me as I know as there are some people in the world that think this is a good reason for having an abortion. The same goes for people who are "not reading for a baby". They might not be financially secure or want a baby at the moment, this echoes another Eastenders abortion storyline about 10 or so months ago, when the mother wasn't financially ready for a baby.

It just really irritates me. I know some people claim that abortions are okay because a foetus isn't really a living thing, and it's only been in the mother's womb for a short period time. I might have symphasised with that a while ago, had I not seen an abortion take place in an R.S. lesson (well, on the television, not on one of my classmates as that would be worrying).

That abortion was like one of the most sickest things I had ever seen. I saw a Ultrasound scan as the thing took place. In came some terrifying sharp piece of apparatus, and it kept poking around and poking at the baby. The baby was squirming around the womb trying to get away from it, threatened by this violent object. If anyone can tell me that that baby wasn't a living thing yet then I'd like to know what is. It was sensitive to that thing and it was moving due to that thing. I felt physically sick as the baby was sucked out of the womb like it was being sucked by a vacuum cleaner. I then saw the sick aftermath, which was the remains of the foetus discarded like rubbish. The corpse was actually mangled, and the head was clearly visible.

It really was sick. How anyone can have an abortion I don't know. Whether the kid inside that womb is the result of an unplanned pregnancy, risks an unpleasant but not fatal illness like Downs Syndrome for the rest of their life I still think any trouble the family or child faces ahead would be better than death. Other reasons like rape, or possible fatal death of the mother or child are maybe more understandable, and I can be sympathetic to that. Maybe in some cases if they face fatal illnesses. That's the parent's job to decide isn't it. And if it's thought through thoroughly then maybe it's okay. Yet it also seems to be the mother's decision. Just because she is carrying it she makes the decision. When a woman's got her heart set on something it's going to happen isn't it. It's harsh of ypu ask me.

If a pregnant woman dies in a bomb explosion by a terrorist group, the papers or news always make sure they mention that. Since that's two people that have died not one. Yet the amount of babies who probably get aborted in a day are forgotten about, as they are not alive are they? From that it seems that a baby is only counts as being alive if it's mother wants it.

Yet many countries have this murder legalised. Most of all what I don't get is that despite this Euthanasia is illegal in most countries. Yet in abortion, the person who gets killed doesn't get a choice, because they are tiny and can't talk yet, and maybe not think. Yet in Euthanasia the person who wants to be killed, has that choice, and wants to be. Just doesn't seem right to me...

I just wanted a whinge, and though Life Sport etc was the best place for it. Didn't think to check the forum's title.

I'd post it again in Life, Universe etc, but then I'd look like I'm trying to attempt to get my post and word count up - and that would be awful surely...

Well, in my opinion contraceptions a better way of keeping the population down rather than killing them.

If the people don't want it because they aren't in the right financial position, then surely they can use some contraception in their "fun and games".

Oh and sorry for posting in wrong forum. I've just got it bookmarked as "Life, Sport etc.." like it used to be. Didn't realise Sports now it's own section. Sorry!

You can never be in the right financial position to have a baby, I reckon they actually feed on money.

Anyway, I think abortion is a good thing, because the world's over populated anyway, what good will bringing an unwanted child into it do? If it wasn't wanted, chances are that it might not be treated very well anyway.

I think the more people that don't have children the better, so if people don't want their unborn children they should get rid of them.

Personally I'm in favour of abortion. It's a woman's body, and the final decision should be hers and no-one elses.

However I do sympathise with some of the points you make, as many are valid. Abortions could be reduced greatly if many people took precautions to avoid conceiving in the first place. And yes, I mean both men and women - it takes two people to make a baby, after all (not counting 'artificial means' of course).

Just because a woman is on the pill, doesn't mean that pregnancy is definitely averted, as the pill is less effective in some women.

However there are extenuating cirumstances which you haven't mentioned. Rape for instance. If a woman is raped and falls pregnant as a result, could you really begrudge her an abortion? Or where carrying a baby full-term may risk the life of the mother?

It's a sensitive area, and one which isn't always as simple as a woman wanting an abortion for the sake of it.
