I've been on both rides within three weeks :-D
Yes I know I’m a pretty lucky guy but what the hell...
On with talking about them...
Alton Towers - Home of AIR
After a painfully long 4 hour drive to Alton from London I was dead tired and hoping for a good night sleep but my brother being my brother talked me into spending the night at the pool table my hotel as, with me hating myself after spending my last £10 on it. Oh well no souvenirs but what the hell I was still going to Alton Towers....
This was the first time I had been to Alton Towers and was absolutely amazed at the scale of the park. First the trip over to Black Hole etc.etc... Things were pretty uneventful except the time we got into HEX by which time we were tired after Nemesis twice and a good handful of rides and we still had our AIR time booked.
10 Minutes into HEX it broke down. Dodgy messages like 'Please be patient, there are technical problems, we are sorting them out ASAP' began being blurted out of the speaker system and we just stood there; they could have at least provided seats. ANOTHER ten minutes later a guy came out wielding a torch and told us to that we could go away if we wanted to while they fixed the ride or he offered us to leave via the Fire Escape. Everyone left. Now if you vaguely know the layout the Towers you will know that HEX and AIR are miles apart. This was a little problem for us because we had a grand total of 10 minutes before our VQ slot for AIR ran out.
Therefore we were presented with a mad 9-minute sprint across Alton Towers, if you are EVER presented with the idea I advise you NOT to do it for your own sake. Anyway AIR, the high point of our visit at Alton Towers. If you want a short summary of it here it is:
OK
Yup that's all I thought of it. It was designed to be exhilarating but not scary and that's what I thought of it, if you're into scary roller coasters you're better off with Nemesis (which I went on three times). AIR is quite simply fun and revolutionary but nothing else. When you go upside down you don’t actually feel it, you are looking up at the sky and when you're the right way round you don’t feel it, you're looking at the floor.
Thorpe Park - Home of Colossus
Small and pathetic compared to Alton Towers but fun nonetheless (Thorpe Park not Colossus). Colossus was truly amazing. It wasn’t exactly ten 'loops' but ten inversions. As you come out of the first bend you feel probably heavier than you ever will in your life, you feel that your butt is well and truly stuck to the chair but then again that only happens for a split second...
Funnily enough my favorite part was NOT an inversion but the bit you go in a straight line going up and down but practically flying in you harness. Amazing.
I was luckily enough to go on it twice and treasured every second of the two rides. They were absolutely amazing. I think this was the first time I’ve been on a roller coaster that actually COASTS around for the entire with no breaks or extra motors getting involved.
Conclusion.
If you have never been to any of the two park then I suggest Alton Towers because of the sheer variety of rides available but if you've been before and are going to sample out the new rides, I would go for Thorpe Park and Colossus.

Thats the first congratulary (if thats a word) comment for this :-D
> nice post, but what exactly does this have to do with games? *sigh*
It's chat Slik you fool.
Good post, I wanna ride Air it looks pretty damn good.
> Nine minutes from Hex to Air? What did you do borrow Sonic's trainers
> or something?
no not really but i still did it!
> I have rode AIR i thought it was allright, i enjoyed the cobra roll
> onto your back, that was great. I should be riding COLOSUSS in August!
> :)j
August?? LOL, it's too good to wait that long!!
Hex is pretty rubbish anyway.
Nemesis is easily going to be the best but Air should be fun fun. It will be like flying as Superman!
Oblivion however is just a one off rush.
> they could have at least provided seats.
LOL seats indeed, for a ten minute stand. When men in black broke down in universal studios, i had to stand for 1 and a half hours.
