Final Fantasy and other games of this genre are pretty advanced now, allowing you to develop characters in so many ways that the possibilities are pretty limitless. Terrains can change too, making the game different each time you play it. But one thing always seems to be constant. The linearity of the storylines. Sure, you can explore a bit and do lots of non-compulsory subquests in these games, but the outcome is always the same, you are trying to defeat an evil, free a world, beat an end boss etc.
What I'd like to see next in RPG development is freedom to change the storyline, to allow your character to follow whatever path you chose for him/her, with perhaps "random" end quests been generated, for example if your character takes a turn towards the dark side then the game could generate some sort of world/galactic domination quest, if your character was essentially good then the game could generate perhaps a "peace, love, happiness" type ending.
And these randomly generated ultimate quests could be made different each time, some more challenging than others depending on how your character has developed. With the next generation consoles' huge memories and storage capabilities, I think this is something that we will see soon. At the moment, we can choose our character, but we cannot have the ultimate freedom of choosing our final destiny.
Mel Gibson is welcome to post replies to this if he so wishes, by the way.
I liked that film, it was cool but I think they should have had more violence, thats what I want, violence, violence, violence, I'm gonna start a petition around my street asking for more violence, buh bye.
Braveheart was a b****r to film, a lot of people got carried away in the fighting and had to be taken to hospital with spears impaled in eachothers legs! It's quite funny when you think about it now...
